7 Minutes in Sea Haven

by A. Marie

My body frozen solid, my eyes roam the tunnel for any hint of her.

“Something wrong?” The static in his voice is gone, something like urgency in its place.

Even with a cut under his eye and dried blood along his hairline, he’s still so attractive. Nothing like he was at the cemetery.

“What the fuck is going on?” he demands from less than a foot away.

The anger from earlier simmers beneath the surface, not quite reaching a full boil. Not when he could be the one to save me.

I trace his lips with the pads of my middle and ring finger. They’re the right size. Kissable. Lickable. Bitable.

Those bunched eyebrows smooth out as he groans.

“Tell me,” I beg, surprised when I hear my own voice.

Just because I can doesn’t mean he does.

“Tell you what?”

He…heard me?

“Tell me to fall,” I rush out while I still can, hoping it reaches his ears before she reaches me.

After a gulp, he rasps, “Fuck it. Fall, Kota. Meet me at the bottom.”

My head just tilting back, something stops me from going any farther—a steel band around my back.

“Damn, Silver. I didn’t mean literally.”

Wait.

Meet me at the bottom? Meet me at the bottom. I said something like that before. In. Real. Life.

“Khaos?”

“Yeah?”

My body stiffens in Khaos’s hold, and I take in his messed-up face with new—awake—eyes. He looks like this in real life?

“Oh my God. What the hell happened to you?”

When I wiggle out of his arms, he lets me go…slowly. Once we’re separate, we study each other.

“What? I…” He shakes his head. “What happened to you?”

How could I explain it to him? I couldn’t. He wouldn’t understand and I would die. I would die of actual embarrassment if he knew I was dreaming about him. Not just dreaming about him, seeking him out. Repeatedly.

Ignoring his question, I point at his face. “Did Guy do that to you?”

He laughs before wincing. A hand to his ribs, he says, “Don’t make me laugh right now.”

I drag him into his bathroom and flip on the light. Despite my eyes not being adjusted yet, I force them to remain on one of the bulbs for a good four seconds. This is real and Khaos is injured.

Pushing him against the counter, I hold him there with one hand while turning on the water with the other.

“What hurts?”

“Why do you have blood under your nails?”
