The red catches my eye too late, yet I still curl my fingers to hide it. I was digging in my scalp before I passed out. I didn’t realize I dug that hard.
It was rough though—attempting to relax after hearing Khaos leave for work. I haven’t had to sleep in this house without another soul in it for a long time.
Turning my hand sideways, I let the stream run down my nails, loosening the dried blood caked under them. It’s not much, thankfully, and goes down the drain without difficulty.
“Probably from when I touched your face.”
“You touched me with your right hand. That’s your left.”
I hate that he’s right.
I don’t hate that he noticed.
“Maybe I scratched myself in my sleep. I’m not sure.”
“You should check.”
I don’t have to look at him to know he’s scanning me from head to toe for evidence. While my top half is covered by an oversized hoodie, almost all of my lower half is exposed thanks to me only wearing briefs.
“I’ll see in the shower tomorrow. Or this morning. What time is it?”
“It was after two when I got dropped off.”
I finally give in and look at Khaos.
“Who dropped you off?”
“A friend.”
“A friend dropped you off looking like this?”
“It’s not like he’s a fucking doctor.”
Way too much relief floods my system hearing his friend’s a he.
“Neither am I.”
“No, Miss Champion?”
“No,” I answer with a touch more diplomacy. “But you… You could’ve called me.”
“Could I?”
My mouth hangs agape for a split second before I force myself to close it and swallow. A nod follows that I doubt Khaos believes. I definitely don’t.
Khaos could call me but that doesn’t mean I’d be able to run to his rescue whenever needed.
“Have my mom buy you a car and then you won’t have to call anyone.”
“I’ll get right on that.”
Once the water’s warm enough, I run a rag under it, drenching the white cotton.
“Are you gonna tell me what happened to make you look like this?”
“I got a little rocked, that’s all.”
“By who?”
