Trēs shrugged, her purple irises taking longer to return. “Don’t and die.”

They blinked in unison and disappeared, leaving me reeling from their information.

Sloane

Monday Evening

As soon as we were back at the palace, Stone pulled me into his room, pointing at the leather-bound journal on his coffee table. I picked it up, the scent on the book sparking a long forgotten memory, but I couldn’t quite grasp it.

I opened the front cover, flipping through the pages but not taking the time to actually read it. We didn’t know who wrote it, so I wouldn’t call it trustworthy information until we’d exhausted all of our other options.

“That handwriting is familiar, but it’s not Lilith’s,” I admitted, squinting my eyes like that would help me recall where I’d seen it.

Stone shrugged. “I’m not really sure what to do with it.”

“Let me show you Lucy’s library. He won’t mind if we borrow some of his books, and maybe you’ll find what you’re looking for in there.”

I led my confused mate through the palace halls and into the back entrance of the library. Bypassing all the common knowledge books, I took him straight to the private area at the top of the stairs.

Lucy’s library was two storeys of wall-to-wall shelves. The center of the massive room was open with a few tables and chairs set up, and the top floor had a wide deck all the way around.

My grandfather had his own cataloguing system, but I knew that all the good stuff was behind the locked door. That’s where Stone’s information would be, if it had ever been written down.

I used my magic to pick the lock, swirling my finger over the keyhole as I pushed air through, and when the lock popped, I grinned to myself. I could have asked for the key, but this was more fun.

“I thought you said he wouldn’t mind?” Stone hissed at me.

I rolled my eyes at him. “He won’t.”

“Then why did you break in?”

When I opened the door, he forgot all about his reservations, immediately striding in to run his fingers over the spines of the hellish tomes. And we got to work.

After an hour, Stone had two small stacks started on the table. One for books that mentioned moths and one for books that he was currently leafing through.

I had pulled four books on hellhounds for the guys to read — or for Palmer to read and then tell the guys the important parts. Stone raised a single brow at me when I stood from my chair and tucked them under my arm.

“What? I’ll bring them back after I read them.”

He shook his head, grinning at me. “Sure you will, Kitten.”

“I’m gonna go check on the guys,” I told him. “If you're not back in a couple hours, I’ll come get you.”

I leaned down, intending to leave a sweet peck on his cheek, but he jerked me into his lap, kissing me until I was panting. Right as I ready to say screw the books, let’s fuck on the table, he set me on my feet and straightened my shirt.

He smirked, and I fucking growled at him, stomping to the door as he chuckled at me.

How could one fucking kiss get me so worked up? It wasn’t long, but it was intense. His hands barely touched me, but I felt like they were all over me. Not an incubus, my ass.

While I was grumbling to myself, I ran into Vaughn. Literally. He caught me by my arm as my books went flying across the hall, but… screw the books, I wanted to fuck in the hall.

Gazing at me, he bit his lower lip as he smiled. “Did you know that your leggings are on inside out?”

No, I didn’t.

I snapped my fingers, and my clothes fell into a pile at my bare feet. Raising a delicate brow at him, I flicked my eyes down to my body. “Now they’re not on at all.”
