Their howling laughter rolled into the kitchen, causing Amelia to smile in a fulfilled sort of way. She was happy to be home, and they were ecstatic to be back together.
I hoped I never had to suffer through more than a few days of separation from my mates. I couldn’t even wrap my mind around twenty years of being apart.
“Wash your hands,” Amelia instructed.
“Why?” I asked, not sure what we were doing.
She gave me a gentle but pointed look. “Because I know where they’ve been.”
I licked my palm, just to get a rise out of her.
“That hand was in a man’s chest,” she squealed.
“That’s not the only thing it’s been inside,” I joked.
Amelia gagged. “Wash your fucking hands.”
I snorted, touching two fingers to my forehead in mock-salute. “Yes, ma’am.”
As I scrubbed and rinsed the suds away, Amelia stacked ingredients on the counter. Well, like four of them… But I still blinked rapidly at her in confusion.
“How are you with milk?” she inquired.
“Fine. I don’t eat meat, though.”
My mother nodded. “I’m going to teach you how to make mashed potatoes. That’s one of the first things I learned to cook.”
Paranormal Lost & Found
Onyx Sanctuary - Chapter 13
Saturday, August 1st
Noon
Novak sat on the couch, wiggling with anticipation as he waited for Vaughn to come home. I had left him there while I showered, and he was still in the same spot when I came back into the living room. Other than his laptop and phone charger, he hadn’t gotten up to do anything.
I couldn’t say why he was so excited about his plan, but he was. More than once since we had returned, I had reminded him it wouldn’t go well.
Did he care?
Not one bit.
My vampire loved fucking with my fae.
On the other hand, Vaughn wouldn’t be happy when he came home to find a dismembered arm haphazardly flung across his pristine bed.
Novak had brought it back with us after a quick trip to the Devil’s Academy. Papi had a student seeking sanctuary from some false kings, including one insane vampire. I still needed to do some research on him.
It concerned me that the underlings he sent to school knew nothing about the ancient treaty written between Nate and Sam. They were ready to attack Onyx Costa on protected territory, and I couldn’t have that happening.
So, I did what I do.
I stepped in and slaughtered them all.
They were too old to not know the laws of their species, which meant this vampire king had been operating under my father’s nose for far too long. His assumed reign would end as soon as I knew more about him.
I learned a little during our chat with his people. Until one man from Onyx’s group stepped forward and ripped the female underling’s arms right off her torso… As one does when faced with a foe. I couldn’t really blame him.
