Then Novak got a hold of said arm, and here we were.

Waiting for my clean-freak fae to come home and find the bloody gift my vampire had left for him. He was like a fucking cat, bringing dead mice to his owner’s door… Except he was only doing it to piss Vaughn off, not bring him the treasures from his hunt.

Because that was what he did.

But I was the spoil-sport for not letting him have more fun with the illegal vampires.

“Are you going to sit here all day, waiting for him to get home?” I asked as the silence droned on.

“Yes. I’ve got my phone charger and my laptop so I can get some work done. I would wait in his room, but he would suspect something.” Novak spread his arms wide. “So, I’m here.”

“Why are you here?” Briggs inquired.

My vampire squinted at him. “Waiting for Vaughn.”

“They just pulled through the gate,” my wolf informed us.

“Shh,” Novak hushed him.

Briggs furrowed his brow. All I could do was shrug at his questioning look.

“Wouldn’t this work better if you were somewhere where he couldn’t see you?” My wolf glanced back at me, but I wasn’t running this show.

“Shh.”

“If he shushes me again—”

Novak glared at him. “Shh.”

The front door opened, and my vampire began typing on his laptop as if he was busy working while we distracted him.

“You’re such a dick,” Briggs quietly grumbled, walking away from him.

“We’re home,” York called from the door.

“We can hear,” my wolf retorted from the kitchen.

“Dick,” Stone muttered.

Palmer snorted. “Did you hear that?”

“Fucking assholes,” Briggs griped under his breath. “The whole lot of them.”

“We heard that,” Vaughn confirmed.

“I didn’t,” my mage complained.

Novak smirked at him. “Of course you didn’t.”

“You’re not clever,” Palmer pointed out. “You know that, right?”

“I think I’m witty and charming,” my vampire volleyed. “And sexy. I’m a total ten.”

“With the personality of a four,” Briggs added.

I turned my head to hide my smile. They bickered non-stop, but there was no malice behind it.

Stone wobbled his head. “Eight.”
