I’m quiet and so is he, maybe because we’re both considering how awkward this has the potential to be.

“Damn,” he mutters, a faint smirk tugging at his mouth. “You ran back into a burning house for Jax, but staying with me until he’s better is where you draw the line?”

I see him smiling in my peripheral vision, but I don’t meet his gaze. I don’t laugh either. Because while this might just seem like a move of convenience for him, it’s far more than that for me. It took me years to get over us, and the key to my healing was distance. With Sterling down in Florida, and me here in Cypress Pointe, things were easier to manage. It was tough enough with him moving back to the city, but now we’re supposed to figure out how to live together?

But he brought up the one point he knows will make me put myself and my feelings aside.

And that’s Jaxon.

I blow out a breath, finally looking into Sterling’s eyes.

“Fine.”

What… the actual… hell…

I can’t even believe I just agreed to this.

To say that it already feels strange would be an understatement, so I can only imagine what actually staying with him will be like.

The nurse walks in with my meds at the perfect time to break up the awkward tension, and the conversation between Sterling and me dies off. Despite there being so much left to discuss. I lie still, trying not to freak out, because my gut is telling me this is a much bigger deal than either of us is letting on.

But apparently, it’s settled.

When I leave the hospital, my destination won’t be Mom’s and Benny’s, it won’t be a hotel.

My temporary place of residence will be the last place I ever expected to lay my head at night.

Sterling’s home.

@QweenPandora

Tonight’s been eventful, to say the least.

With reports of a fire at #LostAngel’s humble abode, it’s no surprise that the entire #GoldenCrew came out. And understandably, news of the tragedy has sent shockwaves through the city of Cypress Pointe.

But that’s not all people are talking about tonight…

NFL golden boy, #MrSilver, arrived at the hospital shortly after #LostAngel was admitted, and no one’s seen him leave.

Despite their son being discharged hours ago.

Could this mean he’s still inside? As in… he’s planning to stay the entire night? By the side of the girl he was once head-over-heels for, while #TheSubstitute is otherwise occupied?

Not gonna lie, you guys. This feels a bit… messy.

Anyway, you know I’ll be back with updates.

Later, peeps :)

CHAPTER FOUR

Sterling

“I’m not trying to make this about me. It’s just… you should’ve called.”
