Even if I didn’t want to, I had to stop seeing her.
Once tonight’s surprise was complete, Geoff would take her home.
She was paid a good salary. More than enough to live somewhere decent.
It wasn’t my job to worry about the state of her accommodation or anything else that wasn’t work-related.
I was her boss. I was too old for her. We were from different worlds.
And sleeping with her was reckless.
So far we’d been lucky.
We’d fucked multiple times and no one had found out.
Which was exactly why we had to end this, before someone did.
Before I lost everything.
Yes.
After tonight, it was over.
For good.
This was the last time we’d spend time together outside of the office.
Which was why I had to make it count.

ELLIE
As we drove away from my building, champagne bubbles flooded my stomach and I tried to suppress my excitement.
Just because Blake had a surprise planned for me, it didn’t mean anything had changed.
After he’d left the bedroom abruptly this morning, I was convinced he was ending our arrangement.
When I’d got out of the shower, he was still locked away in his office and Geoff had texted saying to call whenever I was ready to leave, which I did.
But when I went to get my handbag from the living room, there was a stack of Tupperware containers beside it filled with the breakfast leftovers.
My heart instantly fluttered. That was such a kind gesture.
I told myself it was probably a parting gift and didn’t think I’d hear from Blake again until we were back at work on Monday morning.
I’d attempted to distract myself by trying to watch The Proposal on my phone, but it was so rubbish that it kept crashing, so I gave up, went to sleep and when I woke up, I ate the leftovers for dinner and thought that was that.
So when Blake had messaged to say he’d be at my place in an hour to pick me up, I was surprised.
And given the time, I’d assumed that it was a booty call.
It was just gone 10 p.m., so it was a fair assumption.
I didn’t mind though. I was using Blake for sex just as much as he was using me.
Despite my insistence that I could make my way to his place (it didn’t make sense for him to travel here only for us to have to drive back to his), he wouldn’t take no for an answer.
