“It could be important.”
“It’s seven.”
“That’s generally when mornings happen.”
His arm tightens. “Go back to sleep.”
The phone stops, then immediately starts again.
I reach for it.
Dane drags me backward. “Absolutely not.”
“Let go.”
“No.”
“What if someone’s dying?”
“They’ll still be dying in an hour.” He grunts.
“You’re terrible in emergencies.”
“I’m great in emergencies.”
“You’re refusing to answer the phone.”
“Because my naked wife is in my bed.”
The phone starts ringing again. I laugh and grab it. “Wyatt.”
“Of course it is,” Dane mumbles.
I answer. “Why are you harassing married people before breakfast?”
Wyatt laughs. “Tell Killer Miller to turn on the news.”
Dane goes still beside me.
I sit up. “What happened?”
“Eric Nolan happened.”
Dane takes the phone from me. “What did he say?”
I watch his face as Wyatt talks.
Nothing changes.

The worse something hits him, the less he shows.
Finally, he says, “Send it.”
He hangs up.
“Who is Eric Nolan?”
