“No. It isn’t.”

“You act like you…”

“Raped you. It was rape, Tues.”

“Yeah.” She nods. “Kind of. It was a difficult situation. But in a way, you were raped, too.”

“No, I wasn’t.”

“Did you want to fuck me then, like that?”

“No, but…”

“So, you were also raped.”

“It doesn’t work like that. I could’ve walked away. I should’ve left. Or attacked him then. I never should’ve let it get to that.”

“I could’ve stopped it, too. At any moment, I could’ve left. It would’ve cost me everything, but I could’ve done it.”

“No. That’s not fair. That doesn’t compare—”

“But it does, Wyatt. You had everything on the line. And in the end, you chose giving it up…for me.”

“After I…”

“What did you tell me before? Don’t lessen it? So don’t lessen it, Wyatt. I wanted you. Maybe not like that, maybe not with him there, and you can call it rape, but I forgive you regardless. Now you just need to forgive yourself.”

“I don’t know if I can do that.”

“I know. I’m finding it hard to forgive myself for a lot of things, too.”

“You should, though.”

“Oh, so I should, but you shouldn’t?” She laughs. “What’s your logic there?”

“Your crimes don’t compare to mine.”

“You don’t know all my crimes.”

“Don’t need to.” I sigh. “I know what you went through.”

She nods, leaning back. “Are you in therapy?”

“No.”

“You should be.” She laughs. “It’s very helpful.”

“Yeah, seems like it.” I force out a laugh.

“What does that mean?”

“You forgave me. You can be in the same room as me. Sounds like you have a miracle worker helping you.”

“It took me a moment. I didn’t even realize I needed to forgive you at first, but when I realized…It was easy, Wyatt.”

“Okay, maybe you need a better therapist then, because it shouldn’t have been easy after what I did.”

“But it was.” Her gray eyes are clearer than I’ve ever seen them. A soft smile is on her face as she looks at me.
