“Tell me about it.”
TWENTY ONE
By five o’clock, I was already regretting telling myself I wouldn’t be nervous.
The fair looked exactly the way I remembered.
Bright lights.
Music.
People carrying stuffed animals and oversized drinks.
Everything harmless.
Everything normal.
Except, I knew who waited for me after dark.
Willow and I had been walking around for almost an hour when I caught myself checking the clock again.
“Stop.”
I looked at her.
“What?”
“You know what.”
I smiled.
“I’m not doing anything.”
“You’ve checked the time six times.”
“Maybe I’m curious.”
“You’re obsessed.”
I laughed.
“Maybe.”
We turned towards the midway.
“Is Charlie almost here?”
“Yeah, he’s coming.” she said as she pulls out her phone.
I caressed my exposed arms as a slight breeze caressed my skin. My body felt like it was on high alert as soon as I stepped to the booth to get my ticket.
Without even realizing it, my eyes have tracked and scanned the place looking for the brothers.
“Raven!”
My head turned to see Charlie and a few more guys walking up to us.
Grinning, I step forward before I’m enveloped in a hug. I’m lifted off the ground.
