I could handle mirrors.
I push through the curtain.
Almost immediately, the noise of the carnival softened to a quiet murmur.
“Oh.” I whisper out.
Mirrors stretched in every direction, reflecting thin strips of red light along the floor. My own face stared back at me over and over again.
A low laugh crackled through a speaker somewhere overhead.
“Shit.” I muttered as I jump in surprise.
I held my hands out in front of me and started forward, fingertips meeting cold glass.
Left.
Nothing.
Right.
Another fucking mirror.
I laugh under my breath at my stupidity and turn around.
Someone was standing behind me.
I let out a low scream.
I jump hard and my shoulder slams into the glass behind me.
His face was painted something grotesque, his mouth stretched into a bloody smile as he stared at me through my reflection.
“Okay, you got me.”
Nothing.
I give him an awkward smile before turning down the next opening.
His footsteps follow.
I glance over my shoulder.
He was there.
“Umm, seriously?”
He took another step.
I walk faster.
So did he.
My smile faded.
I turned another corner.
His footsteps follow.
