Someone else lunged through the wooden slats.
I screamed and jerked away.
Another worker came from the opposite side.
For a few seconds, there was nothing but screaming and laughter and the roar of the chainsaw.
Then my friends hand slipped from mine.
He was gone.
“Hello?
A scream came from somewhere behind me.
Charlie.
The lights went out.
“….Hello?”
A red bulb flickered on.
I wasn’t alone.
He stood at the other end of the barn.
The mask.
Every bit of fear I’d felt seconds ago changed.
My pulse didn’t slow.
It just started beating faster for a different reason.
I glanced behind me.
No sign of Charlie.
When I looked back, the masked man was closer.
I swallowed.
“Did you do that?”
Nothing.
“Because if you had your creepy ass farmer friends kidnap him-”
He took another step.
I smiled.
“I told you.”
Another one.
“I’m not running.”
