Cole smiled. “Alive.” Angel exhaled. “For now.”

Ghost raised his gun. “Careful.”

Cole ignored him. “Dominic found Bishop. Bishop found you. Suddenly, pieces that had stayed separated for decades started coming together.”

Angel held up the photograph. “What does this mean?”

Cole looked at it. For the first time, something like regret crossed his face. “Elena was supposed to work for me. She was brilliant with numbers. Better than Robert. Better than Samuel.”

Bishop's jaw tightened. “She figured out your network.”

“She helped build the financial structure,” Cole said.

Angel stared. “No, she wouldn’t do that.”

“She didn't know what it was at first,” he said. Bishop looked sick, but Cole continued. “By the time she understood, it was too late.”

“So she kept the ledger,” Angel said.

“I guess it was her insurance,” Cole said.

“And you killed her,” Angel spat.

“She threatened to expose us,” Cole explained.

Ghost had heard enough. “Great. Confession obtained.”

He raised his gun, and Cole smiled. “You shoot me, and my men shoot all of you.”

Monster shrugged. “Probably.” Cole frowned, and Monster continued. “But here's the thing about bikers. We're not known for our great impulse control.”

Ghost smiled as Cole's men shifted around them. Then a voice sounded from outside. “Neither are retired Nomad Knights.”

Cole spun, and gunfire erupted. Ghost tackled Angel to the floor, and Jackhammer went down beside them. Bullets tore through the storage unit. Metal screamed, and glass shattered around them. Ghost covered Angel's head. “Stay down!”

“I am!” she shouted.

Monster's men returned fire, and someone screamed. Ghost looked up to see Dominic standing outside behind a concrete divider with three older men—Crow was with them. Fucking Crow. Ghost almost laughed.

Cole fired toward Dominic, and that was his mistake. He turned his back on Angel, and she raised her gun. Ghost saw it happen first. “Angel.” She looked at him and for half a second, he saw the question in her eyes. Could she? Should she? Ghost shook his head, not because Cole deserved mercy, but because Angel didn't need his death on her hands.

“I've got you.” Her weapon lowered, and Ghost fired instead. Cole dropped with one shot to his shoulder. He was alive because Ghost wanted him alive, for Angel, for Elena, for Viper, and for Shadow. The rest ended quickly. Cole's men surrendered when they realized they were surrounded.

Ghost stood, and Angel followed. Jackhammer checked her over. “You hit?”

“No,” she said.

“You sure?” he asked.

“Yes,” she insisted. Ghost checked her anyway. “I'm fine!”

“Humor us,” he said.

She sighed. “I'm fine.” Ghost looked toward Cole. He was on the floor clutching his shoulder—alive and pissed.

Angel walked toward him, and Ghost and Hammer followed. Cole looked up at the three of them. “You think you've won?”

Angel crouched in front of him. “No.”
