“And yes, I’ll go with you to bring Kai,” she says, leaning back to look up at me. “But you never answered my question on why only one of your band brothers?”
Just like that, the mood is completely ruined by the mere thought of Raithe Reilly.
“He’s not worth the words, love,” I grumble. She eyes me skeptically, pressing her lips into a thin line.
I sigh. “Raithe. He’s Riven’s brother, and he’s a piece of work. I don’t want him anywhere near you, actually,” I say, gripping her ass in my palms and squeezing hard. I pull her closer to me, distracting myself from thoughts of Raithe.
“Aw, come on,” she says. “He can’t be that bad, especially if he’s Riven’s brother. He seemed nice enough that night at Moonvale.”
“He’s nothing like Riven,” I spit out, the conversation making me angrier than I’d like to be at the current moment.
“Okay, okay,” she says, running her hands through the back of my hair. It feels so fucking good, and I can sense the tension leaving my body with each stroke of her fingers. “We don’t have to talk about him, then.”
“Thank you,” I whisper, pulling her against me until her tits are so close I can nearly taste them. My cock throbs against my pants, and I press my hips upward to feel her against me.
“Mmm,” she moans. “Don’t you think we had enough fun earlier? We need to get ready to pick up Kai.” She says the words, but all I can think about is the way she’s grinding on top of my cock right now.
“Keep that up, and Kai will have to fucking walk to the retreat,” I say, my voice low and heady. She giggles, and the sound alone is enough to make me come right here and now.
“Meow.”
“Fuck,” I say, jumping and nearly tossing Lydia from my lap as Nyx pounces onto the sofa back and scares the living shit out of me.
“Nyx.” Lydia laughs, climbing off my lap and taking off toward the cat’s food bowl.
Goddamn cockblocking ball of fur. I adjust myself on the sofa and inside my pants, scowling at the cat as she jumps clean over me and slowly struts over to Lydia. Lydia fills both the food and water bowls, leaning down to pet the cat as it sips water leisurely from the small bowl, like it didn’t just ruin my life.
“I’m gonna run and get dressed,” Lydia says, winking and walking off toward the stairs.
“Wait,” I say, standing from the sofa.
I at least want to watch her get dressed. She laughs as I follow her into her bedroom and plop down on her bed. She tilts her head down at me, staring like this is the first time she’s truly seen me.
“What?” I ask, suddenly more self-aware than I was seconds ago.
“Oh, nothing,” she says, moving toward her closet and stopping with her hand on the door frame. “You just look, well, happy.”
The little siren disappears into her closet and doesn’t emerge until she’s fully fucking clothed. I abandon all prior thoughts of her calling me happy, because right now, she looks like a goddess.
She’s wearing a deep forest-green two-piece outfit, the skirt moving like smoke as she twists in place. The fabric is sheer and lightweight, the neckline plunging straight between her tits in the most mouthwatering way. My eyes track the sleeves that fan out at the wrist, moving with her. I swallow as I take her in.
“You are stunning, love,” I say, unable to filter the thoughts as they tumble from my lips. Her eyes shoot up to mine, and she isn’t able to hide her shock beneath the soft smile playing on her lips.
“Thank you, Callum,” she says, heading for her bathroom mirror next.
She runs a brush through her dark hair, focusing on her bangs before finishing up. Turning, she walks over to me and holds my gaze—the confidence in her eyes reminding me exactly what I find most attractive about her. My girlfriend doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her, ever. And why should she? She’s fucking beautiful, and smart, and mine.
She leans onto the mattress and places a palm against my cheek. I stare, unable to look away even if I wanted to. Her thumb brushes across my skin as her eyes search mine, a silent confession of everything we pretend not to feel. And when her lips find mine, only one question remains.
How did I manage to become the luckiest man in the entire universe?

Lydia
I am Callum Thorne’s girlfriend.
The thought crosses my mind for the millionth time since we left my house. When Callum said he wanted to keep me away from Raithe, he forgot to mention that Raithe and Kai currently live together. So, we’re now on our way to Raithe’s to pick up Kai.
