“Shh. I’m here. Look at me.”

I try.

Green.

Just look at the green.

But I can’t hold onto it.

“Trust me?”

I nod.

Suddenly my feet leave the ground.

“Jude—”

And then—

SPLASH.

Cold water surrounds me, and I gasp.

Jude keeps walking until we’re both in the sea, my nightgown completely drenched and his arms holding me steady while the waves rise around us.

“Breathe,” he whispers.

I do.

One breath.

Then another.

The hospital disappears.

There’s only blue water.

Morning sun.

Waves.

Jude.

I suck in another breath.

It works.

“I can breathe.”

His arms are still around me, his eyes searching my face like he needs to make absolutely sure.

“Where did you just go?”

I shake my head. “Hospital.”

Jude nods once.

“Want to talk about it?”
