“Successful,” Logan says, which isn’t a lie, but way better than saying our cars ended up looking like cheese graters.

“Great. Per your request, I asked the staff to set your rooms in the same house Cillian is staying in. You’ll be divided between all floors, but all of your rooms are next to stairs, an elevator, or an exit.”

“Excellent,” Logan approves, and we all walk inside.

Dear God…

If I thought the outside looked ridiculously expensive, the interior is on a whole other level.

It’s as if we’ve walked into a castle full of crystal, glass, gold, and paintings so famous even I recognize them.

I look to my left and see Law in awe.

I’ve never seen him this happy, rambling about “museum this” and “art gallery that.”

He really thrives in places this fancy.

Unlike me, who usually can’t step into a house with a mortgage higher than four figures without having a visceral reaction.

A reaction I expect to hit any second now, but somehow I feel fine.

Huh…

How strange…

Normally, places less expensive than this one suffocate me, making me remember every detail of my mother’s death.

But as I look at Cillian, his eyes glowing as he explains the history of every painting he passes, the anxiety never comes.

It’s as if my body recognizes this place as a part of Cillian.

“Are there any house upgrades I need to know about?” Cillian asks.

“Ja, there are. All the locks are biometric now, with cameras and sensors in every hallway. And because Alexios went over the top—” Leif hands Cillian a book almost as thick as a Bible. “—here is a guide to all the new security add-ons.”

“Wow…” Cil stares at the book, and I can already tell he wants to burn it.

He’s so ridiculously easy to read.

“Cillian!” a voice calls out from down the gallery, and we turn.

In the living room at the end of the hall, Leo, Julian, and Finnian are having tea while checking a stack of papers.

“Leo!” Cillian runs toward him and throws his arms around him.

Leo starts crying.

One of their family’s security guards steps forward to separate them, following one of the protocols we gave them.

But this is his best friend.

The last time they saw each other, they were standing next to a dead man and had to be separated.

Cil needs this.

I raise my hand, stopping the guard. He looks back at me, and I shake my head.

The guard steps back, and I watch, mesmerized by Cillian’s smile, while Leo tells him everything he did at Harknett HQ.
