Back when we were at the cabin, Alexios told me that unlike Julian, who kept demanding proof of life and asking to bring him and see his friend, Leo only asked once if Cil was okay.
Once Alexios confirmed it, Leo calmed right down and switched to grilling every Harknett on their hobbies, jobs, and raid stories.
I guess Cillian didn’t exaggerate when he said Leo is a Harknett fan.
“How long have you been here?” Cillian asks Leo. “I had no idea you’d arrived!”
“Since yesterday afternoon. Astrid will arrive later tonight, but don’t worry, everything is ready for tomorrow.”
Finnian steps forward with a binder and passes it to Cillian. “An’ more importantly, look at what I’ve got for you, boss.”
Cillian opens it to reveal tomorrow’s preview menu and gasps. “Oh, my God, Finnian! You’re decorating them like the pieces of art we’ll auction?!”
“Aye.”
“You’re a genius!”
BEEP-BEEP.
An alert sounds in my earpiece, and I tense.
I glance at Law and the twins, and they all nod, letting me know they got it too.
“All stations, listen up,” Logan’s voice comes over the comms. “Knox, come to Cillian’s suite alone, right now. Law, stay with Cillian and do not let him come up here under any circumstances. Damián, blend in with the staff downstairs and flag anyone acting weird. Twins, perimeter check, now.”
Holy fuck…
What the hell happened?
I look at Law, and he nods, letting me know that he has it covered.
“Cillian, I need to head up to the staging area and double-check our secondary comms feed. Let Law know if you need something.”
“Sure.”
“Ooft! Are you goin’ to be our new nanny? Can we call you Lawy McPhee?” Finni teases, and Law glares at him.
“You’ve been friends with Dami for far too long, mate.”
I take one last glance to make sure Cillian is calm, then head to the third floor toward his room.
I take the stairs, turn left, then to the right.
I don’t need a map.
We spent weeks memorizing every square inch of the mansion’s blueprints before setting foot on the island.
I reach Cillian’s suite in seconds, stepping up to the door and knocking twice.
Logan opens the door, and I walk in.
Inside, Alexios is on his laptop, and fuck, he looks worried.
“What happened?” I ask, and Logan points toward the bathroom.
“Another message, only this one is different.”
I head to the bathroom, preparing for the worst, and freeze as soon as I walk in.
