Knox

For he’s sitting in my suite’s lounge area while I button my shirt, and his eyes aren’t even on me.

See?

That’s way, way more boring and frustrating than my sexy fantasy.

“Cil, we ran into a problem,” Knox says, finally breaking the silence, and thank God, because I was starting to hear a freaking tinnitus ring.

“Oh, we did too. But you go first.”

He looks down for a second, and then his stunning green eyes lift and lock on mine. “The stalker left another message.”

“Ohhh…”

I was definitely not expecting that.

“We found it last night on your bathroom wall,” Knox continues, his hands now fidgeting.

“What did it say?”

“The usual threats about killing you.”

“Wow…” I chuckle, feeling both stressed and a bit embarrassed that I thought having an ex was an issue worthy of telling Knox. “Okay, now my problem seems super dumb and minor.”

“What was your problem?”

“Forget it.” I wave my hand dismissively and button the last of my shirt.

But of course Knox doesn’t forget it.

Instead, he stands up and moves closer to me. “Cillian, what was your problem?”

“…My ex Aurelio is arriving today. Apparently, someone’s bringing him as a plus-one.”

“What?!” Knox hisses, and—why the hell does he look angrier right now than when he told me about the stalker being on this island? “Can he afford to buy anything?”

“No,” I tell him, and he leans toward me, his arms caging me against the mirror.

“Then what the fuck is he coming here for?”

“Nothing important.”

“Cil…” he growls menacingly, and damn, he’s so hot.

“Why are you freaking out more over my dumb ex than a psycho stalker, Knox?”

“Because I can handle the stalker.” He holds my chin, forcing me to look at him, and fuck… I want to kiss him.

Shala lala, kiss the boy!

Kiss the boy, Knox.

But he doesn’t… instead, he glares at me.

“Answer my fucking question, Cillian. Why is your ex coming here?”

“He’s coming to get me back,” I say, deliberately skipping the part where I want nothing to do with him and would rather die by fire ants than give that man a second chance.

Partly because I am an ass, but mostly because Knox is finally looking at me with the same intensity and fire he had back in the cabin.
