I slapped a hand to Vega’s chest. “This isn’t our fight.” I snapped my gaze to Tank. “You gotta problem with Kodiak, take it up with him.”

“No fucking shit. Read the room, asshole. We’ve all got a problem with him. And you’re riding with him. Means I gotta problem with you, too.”

The commotion had the attention of the board. Chairs scraped along the floor. Rogue pushed through the crowd with Blade and Romeo. Bullet launched out from behind the bar. Jazzy was right behind him.

In an instant, Dozer was at Tank’s side. “Not like this.”

Tank shrugged off his warning. “They’re protecting him.” He glared at me. “Did you warn him?”

“Warn him about what?” How much had Dozer shared with his old man? Maybe it was Blade or someone else on the board opening their fucking mouths. Didn’t matter who. Not cool to have the whole club against him. Walking into the club tonight would have him walking into an ambush.

Blade put an arm in front of Tank. “Sit the fuck down. I told you I’d handle this.”

Tank’s face reddened. “Then fucking handle it. You think they’re playing. You don’t fuck around with these guys.”

These guys? Did he mean us? I glanced at Vega. What the fuck had we done?

“Everyone take a breath.” Jazzy inserted herself into the fray. “We told you we’d handle it,” she said to Tank. “Kodiak will show up, and when he does, he’s yours. So chill the fuck out. You’re making the situation worse.”

And he’d drawn the attention of the club. I glanced around for Lili, relieved she was still outside in the old mausoleum with Seven’s twins.

“Can we check Kodiak’s room?” Cruz asked Romeo.

“I already have. It’s hard to tell if he’s been around. If he bounced, he left clothes behind.”

Blade turned to Bullet. “Has he been around Good Girls?”

Bullet shook his head as he pulled a cigarette from his pack.

“Jesus.” Tank rubbed a hand over his beard. “I told you we shouldn’t wait. Hellers should’ve dealt with him. We take him out to Bullet’s barn and show him what we do to traitors.”

“No. That is exactly what we aren’t going to do,” Jazzy said. “We took a vote, and the decision was made. Hellers aren’t getting dirty on this one. This shit isn’t going down in our house.”

“What the fuck is going on?” I asked.

Bullet lit his cigarette. “Kodiak made an enemy out of the Brunos. The product he’s moving belongs to them.”

“They want it back,” Blade said. “And they want Kodiak.”

“And you’re just going to turn him over?”

“Yes,” Jazzy said. “Because this isn’t a Heller problem.”

“The club’s patch doesn’t cover mafia debts,” Blade said. “He’s out bad.”

“We didn’t say anything to you because we didn’t want you involved. Plausible deniability.” Bullet blew a stream of smoke toward the ceiling. “I know what I promised you. He’s my friend, too. But this is bigger than moving a bit of product through the club.”

“A bit?” A dark chuckle rumbled out of Cruz. “They’re missing at least three kilos, maybe more.”

Tank kicked a chair out of the way. “You don’t fuck with the mafia and stick around to talk about it.”

Vega snorted. “Maybe that’s why he’s not here.”

I glanced at Tank. “What happens if you don’t turn him over?”

“Not an option.” He sank onto the chair. “I’m not going down because of Kodiak.”

“He brought the wolves to the door,” Jazzy said.
