NYX
“I can’t believe you’ve never tried these before,” I said to Jamie, clutching the box of cookies tightly in my hands.
“And I still haven’t, because you won’t give up the damn box.”
“Listen, you can’t just eat them, okay? There has to be a disclaimer and presentation because once you try them, I swear you’re going to be addicted.”
“Nyx, just open the damn box.”
“No!” I argued, clutching it tightly to my chest.
After my event, Jamie voiced the desire for us to spend more time together. I agreed, under the circumstances, that he’d stop by one of my favorite cookie places, Sugar & Spice, on the way to my house.
He obliged, and now we were about to embark on one of the best dessert journey’s he’d ever taken. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t make things a little bit dramatic, though.
“You’re doing the most, you know that, right?”
“Yes,” I proudly nodded. “I’m very aware, but I promise that once you taste these, you’ll understand. I have no idea what Kina puts in her cookie dough, but it has to be some form of crack. The peach cobbler snickerdoodles will make you want to commit a crime.”
Snickering, Jamie reached out, prying my fingers from the box. “Now you’re taking it too far. They can’t be that damn good. Though for the price, she better be working with something.”
He slid his index finger beneath the tab and slowly pushed the top open. My mouth watered just as soon as the delectable scent wafted towards my nose.
“Damn,” Jamie said. “They smell good as hell.”
“Mmhm. Exactly. Now just imagine how it tastes.”
Turning to me, he raised an eyebrow. “You know that sounded freaky as hell?”
With a frown, I whacked him on his shoulder. “Focus. Eat the damn cookie.”
“Sounds even freakier, but hey, if it’s what the lady wants.”
I snickered, placing my hand over my mouth. “God, you are so annoying.”
“The lies you tell.”
Finally dipping his hand into the box, he pulled one of the cookies out and gingerly bit into a beige disk.
His groan of approval brought a smile to my face. “See? Go ahead and tell me I was right.”
“You know what, I can’t even front on you this time. They’re good as fuck.”
“As I told you, they would be.”
He went for another one, and I quickly grabbed the box from his large hands. “Aht, aht, I told you that you could have one. You’re getting beside yourself, now.”
“Damn, I can’t even have two of the cookies I bought?”
“Nope! You buying them was the entry fee. I shared with you just to be nice.”
“You ain’t shit, Nyx.”
“You aren’t the first to make that claim, and something tells me that you won’t be the last. It ain’t gonna stop me from enjoying the hell out of these cookies, though.”
“I bet,” Jamie replied. “And not to ruin the moment, but I’m glad to see that you’re back to normal. I was worried about the rest of the night.”
“What do you mean?” I questioned, biting into a cookie. It nearly melted the second it came into contact with my tongue. Yeah, I was definitely getting another box as soon as she opened the next afternoon.
