“Girl,” Raelynn cackled. “I like you.”
I shot her a look that said, ‘I told you so’.
“But now that we got the business out of the way. Crack that wine open, friend, and start gossiping about this man.”
“There’s nothing to gossip about,” I rolled my eyes, doing as Rae asked and opening the wine, filling the glasses.
“The lies you tell,” Ximena hummed. “You’ve been spending a lot of time together.”
“Okay, and?”
“And that walk of yours has been a little crooked.”
“Rae, I promise you’re at least two comments away from receiving your eviction notice.”
“Okay, just tell us if it’s good,” she switched gears, accepting the glass from me. “That’s the least you can do.”
In no way was I about to get into my sex life with Frick and Frack but, I knew my friend. Raelynn was like a dog with a bone and wouldn’t give up until I at least gave her something.”
“Spending time with Jamie is,” I paused, trying to think of the perfect way to describe it. “Something I can’t put into words. He tends to make me forget everything, even my problems.”
“Ooooh,” Ximena sang, “Look at your cheeks.”
“Shut up.”
“I don’t know, friend,” Rae hummed, sipping from her glass. “I’ve been by your side for a few relationships, and I’ve never seen you this down bad.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this down bad. It’s terrifying.”
“I think that’s a good thing, though,” Ximena was the next to speak as she swirled her wine around. “It means he’s not a safe option or something you settled for. Jamie stirs something in your spirit, which is exactly what love should feel like.”
Unfortunately, the end of her sentence came out as I was swallowing, causing me to choke.
“W—wh—what?” I sputtered, smacking my chest.
“Oh, Nyx,” Raelynn shot me a sympathetic glance. “Don’t tell me you’re being slow to catch up on what everyone already sees. Which is, in case you need a hint, that you’re completely head over heels in love with that man.”’
“Okay, that’s enough wine for you two. Y’all are already drunk.”
Ximena and Raelynn exchanged a glance, which I didn’t appreciate since before Ximena arrived, Raelynn was complaining about me inviting someone else into our fold.
“We’re not in love,” I insisted. “As a matter of fact, our friendship began because we were both committed to hating love.”
“Hmm, it’s funny how meeting the right person can change your views on things. Life comes at you fast, huh?”
“I’m so done talking to y’all about this. How about you get to work on the vision boards and get out of my damn business?”
“Whew, testy, testy,” Raelynn sang, but thankfully dropped the subject. Not that it did much good.
Whether I liked it or not, the seed had been planted, leaving me with one question burning in the back of my brain for the rest of the night.
Was I in love with James Luck?
Chapter Twenty-Two
James
“What are you up to?” Nyx inquired as I climbed out of my car.
