A Little Bit of Sweetness

“You said it was mocha or something like that, didn’t you?”

“Yes, but it was chocolate coffee essentially.” I clarified.

“Well, that mug got me right. I’ll take another one when you get the chance.”

“OK, I got you.”

By eleven, I had seen Quinton come and go from the garage about fifty times. I figured as the owner he would spend most of his time in his office. The crowd had died down, so I took the chance to step out to use the bathroom and pump.

My boobs were feeling heavy as hell. Not that I wasn’t thankful that I produced more than enough milk for Trey’s greedy ass, but I was sick and tired of nursing bras.

The best thing I had ever purchased was the salve to prevent nipple irritation. It was almost too late when I found out it existed after I had Theo. I was only gone for about ten minutes, but the relief was enough to rejuvenate me to work the next few hours, even if we got another rush.

As I walked into the truck, once again, my eyes drifted toward that damn garage. I felt Rhonda’s eyes on me before I looked at her.

“I don’t know why you won’t just go talk to him. He obviously likes you.”

“What are you talking about? The man is just helping me out.”

“Hmph, and you’re just looking over there every ten minutes because you’re concerned he might get hurt fixing one of those cars.”

“He’s handsome, and I appreciate him for helping me, but the last thing I need is another man playing in my damn face. I don’t need some fly-by-night-ass nigga in the boys’ face.”

“Isn’t his son in Theo’s grade?” she asked.

“All the more reason to keep him out of my face. I’m not about to feel awkward about going to school events because one of the other kids’ dads played me.”

“Who said something about getting played? We are talking about getting laid.”

“I’m not thinking about that either. Girl, I’m still breastfeeding,” I reminded her.

“What the hell does that supposed to mean? You and Maurice didn’t have sex while you were breastfeeding?”

“It was different with him. He’s Theo’s dad. He knew what was going on. We are talking about a new man that isn’t responsible for my breast leaking like hell half the day.”

“That’s an easy fix, bae. Keep your bra on and take your panties off,” she suggested.

“Girl, bye. Why am I even entertaining you?”

She smirked. “Because you’re trying to figure out how to get some without having to explain the leakage. I think I just worked it out for you.”

“You didn’t work anything out. I’m not sleeping with that man.”

“OK, just fuck him. Nobody said anything about sleep.”

“Girl, bye.” I shook my head as I walked over to the window to take the order of the customer who’d just walked up.

Rhonda could say anything she wanted. I was not crossing the line with that man.

We sold out early. By twelve thirty, Rhonda and I had cleaned up and did a little prep work to get us started the next day. I was adding a new coffee that I couldn’t wait for people to try. Coffee had been one of the cheapest and easiest to execute of all my menu items.

“See you in the morning, bae. If I get here before you, I’ll put the biscuits and coffee on,” Rhonda said as she left the truck.

“OK, see you tomorrow.” I walked over ready to lock the door behind her, but I saw Quinton walking over to the truck. I didn’t like the look on his face. Folding my arms across my chest, I stepped out to meet him.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Who said something was wrong?”
