“I’m with Soph here,” Axel said. “He does seem like a kidnapping blackmailer.”

Scarlett hit his shoulder. “Stop it.”

“I don’t trust him,” Axel said.

“That’s why we need to get to know him better.”

“I mean Soph, obviously. Soph needs to get to know him better. Which will happen because he’s in her group. Not ours.”

Axel shrugged.

“What if he tries to kidnap me?” I asked. Even though I didn’t really believe that would happen. “Or ransom me?” I added when no one took the bait.

“You’ll never be alone with him,” Scarlett said. “It’s a group project. Jacob will be there too. He would never let anything bad happen to you.”

I folded my arms across my chest and leaned back into the couch cushions. I couldn’t avoid Adonis. Not when all my friends were practically in love with the guy.

Jacob and Adonis walked back into the room laughing.

I lowered my eyebrows. Why were they laughing? Wasn’t Jacob threatening him in the other room?

Adonis winked at me as he sat back down.
