“I know that now.”
“And how is that possible? You barely spent five minutes with him.”
As Rory gave me a sheepish look, Annie grinned. “We did a social media deep dive on him.”
“WHAT?” I shrieked, which caused Ozzy to run over to check on me.
Rory held her hands up. “In this day and age, it’s the smart thing to do. I mean, hockey players aren’t known for their upstanding reputations.”
I shook my head. “I don’t need you two stalking Gavin to know he’s a decent guy.”
“Does that mean you don’t want to know what we found out?”
Instead of responding, I gathered the tray full of dirty dishes in my arms and started off the terrace. When Rory and Annie caught up to me, Rory said, “Come on. Aren't you the least bit curious?”
“Not a bit.”
“Even the pics of his ex-wife.”
Dammit. They had me there. After depositing the tray in the kitchen, I turned back to them. “I suppose one picture wouldn’t hurt.”
Rory gave me a triumphant grin. “I knew you did.”
While she scrolled on her phone, Annie said, “The guy really is decent, Mina. He’s on the board of a foundation that helps kids of divorce. Like stepping in for boys without dads and stuff like that.”
I thought about the remark he’d made earlier about his stepmother. It made sense he would volunteer his time like that.
Staring at her phone, Rory said, “The most important thing is his record is squeaky clean. No drunken bar brawls, no DUI’s, and thank God no sexual assault accusations.”
“Jesus, you really were thorough.”
Rory then turned the screen towards me. A beautiful brunette with a killer smile stared back at me in a couture-looking wedding dress. At her side, Gavin beamed happily at the camera.
Annie grunted. “Of all the pics of them, you had to show her that one?”
“It’s the first one I came to.” She then flicked to another one. It was Claudia and her new man. He wasn’t remotely as good-looking as Gavin, but maybe I was biased.
“She’s beautiful,” I remarked.
“Not half as beautiful as you are,” Rory argued.
“Of course, you’d say that. You’re my sister.”
Annie laughed. “I think I could argue we would tell you if you were ugly.”
I giggled. “You’re right. You would.”
Annie then clapped her hands together. “All right. What are you wearing tonight?”
“He’s meeting me right after work.”
Annie and Rory exchanged a glance. “Right. So I’ll go grab that green sundress that makes your tits look really good,” Annie suggested.
“I really need to change?”
“Do you want to go on your first official date smelling like sausage?” Rory asked.
Wagging her brows, Annie replied, “No, she needs to smell that way after the date.”
