“I’ll be back soon.”
Alibi yawns.
I crack the windows, lock the car, and start toward Roman's house.
Every step makes my smile grow.
I finally found his house.
Granted, I found it by following someone else. But the end result is the same.
I reach the driveway just as the front door opens.
Shit.
I stop.
Beck steps onto the porch. His eyes meet mine.
I see the exact moment recognition hits. His eyebrows lift. Then he smiles. “Callie?”
Well. That's interesting.
“You know my name.”
Beck's smile falters slightly. “Lucky guess.”
I grin. “Oh, you're bad at this.”
“At what?”
“Lying.”
His smile returns. “That's disappointing. Usually I'm pretty good.”
“We've never met.”
“No.”
“But you know who I am.”
He takes a drink of coffee. “Mm-hmm.”
I narrow my eyes. “Roman told you about me.”
“I didn't say that.”
“You didn't have to.”
His mouth twitches.
“What did he say?”
“Nothing.”
“Was it a good nothing or bad nothing?”
“I'm starting to understand why he looks tired.”
