Or maybe I’ll really be lucky and bump into him.
Just in case, I change into tight jeans, a low-cut black top, and black booties. I do my makeup subtly enough that it looks natural, like I’m not trying too hard.
Then I grab my purse, keys, jacket, and phone and hurry to my SUV.
I slip on a pair of sunglasses.
Time to do some detective work.
My first stop is Bramble & Bean, a coffee shop that everyone in town frequents.
“Morning, Gracie,” I say as I step through the door and push my sunglasses up onto my head.
“Morning, Callie,” she says with a smile.
My heels click against the floor as I make my way to the counter.
“You look like a woman on a mission.”
“Kind of.” My gaze sweeps the coffee shop—twice—but he’s not here. “You haven't seen a six-foot-four grumpy actor wandering around, have you?”
“No, I haven’t.”
“He has gorgeous brown eyes. Like whiskey in the sun.”
She shakes her head.
“Fantastic shoulders. Broad and muscled.”
“No.”
“He probably had a murderous look on his face.”
Gracie blinks. “Are you sure he’s an actor?”
I shrug. “I’m like... eighty percent sure.”
She doesn’t look convinced.
Walter, her fourteen-year-old dachshund, sniffs my leg, and I bend down to give him some loving.
“Well, if you see him...” I stand with Walter in my arms. “Call me immediately.”
“Okay.”
“And if he tries to leave before I get here, do something to distract him.”
Gracie looks confused. “Like what?”
I smile and pat Walter’s head. “You’re good at tripping and spilling things on people. That should work.”
Gracie sighs. “I’d like to argue with that... but I can’t.”
I order an espresso that I don’t need. Not with all the caffeine already flowing through my veins.
As soon as she hands it to me, I scratch Walter’s ears once more, set him on the floor, and grab my phone. “Here’s a picture of him.”
I duplicated and cropped it so no one would see his bloody shirt or amazing chest before I left the house.
