Knot My Fate

by Rosemary A. Johns

She wraps her arms around me, clawing down my back.

I hiss, as she scratches me.

Then I smirk.

She desires to mark her Alpha. It is only fair that I mark her back.

My pheromones become even more dominant.

I break the kiss, lightly grazing my teeth down her neck.

“Bite,” the Omega murmurs.

“Hey, slow down. We can’t bond, remember?” Angel tries to grab my arm, but I shove him back.

This is my Omega. He can find his own.

“First,” I manage to force out, “run, little Omega.”

I leap to my feet, staring down at my prey with a dangerous look.

Purring excitedly, the Omega struggles to her feet.

I arch my brow in triumph at the other Alpha.

I allow the Omega to think that she has a chance to escape as she stumbles away toward the inn.

She won’t escape.

I count the heartbeats in my head.

One, two, three.

I want to give her a chance…but not too much of one.

Just enough to let her believe that she has a chance.

This is a game.

She has reached the porch.

“It’s incredible. Paige appears much better already.” My Angel whistles. “But do you have any idea how dangerous removing your rut patch is for you…? That is what you’ve done to make your pheromones this dominant, huh?”

I ignore him.

My gaze is fixed on the Omega who is disappearing inside the inn. The screen door slams.

…eight, nine…ten.

The hunt is on.

I sprint across the lawn. The grass is warm on my bare soles.

The Omega’s blackberry scent hangs in the humid Texas air in a trail.

Rhett has also disappeared from the porch. My head swivels from side to side.

Where is he?
