Buzz.
I jerked as another message appeared.
He won’t tell you.
I jerked away. My hands shook. The cell slipped free.
Footsteps.
“Nyssa?” Mrs. Reid called my name. “Honey.”
I slowly lifted my gaze. “What?”
She dropped her focus to my hand. “You’re bleeding.”
I followed her stare. Blood dripped from the tip of my finger. Stark against the gloom. I bent, picked up my cell and turned around. “Excuse me, Mrs. Reid. I’ll just go and clean up.”
She just stood there as I walked around her and strode from the room.
He.
Won’t.
Tell.
You.
I didn’t need to wonder who ‘he’ was.
But I had no idea who was sending this… and why to me.
My steps slowed as I crossed the foyer. I glanced at the entrance of his wing.
Was he in there?
Should I go to him?
Show him the messages.
He won’t tell you…
I knew I should’ve turned.
I didn’t.
I walked back to my room, slipped inside and closed the door behind me.
Secrets.
Lies.
This wasn’t me.
Still, I couldn’t stop from walking to the seat under the window and lifting my phone once more.
My thumb hovered over the attachment. I stared at those words. He won’t tell you…
I stared at the play button.
