Malakai finally looks at me.
“Not since Mercy.”
Something shifts low in my abdomen.
I go still.
For one confused second, I tell myself it was a muscle tightening. A cramp. Adrenaline. Anything that belongs inside my body.
Then it moves again.
Slow.
Rolling.
Deep enough that I feel it beneath my skin.
My hand flies to my stomach.
“Sage?”
Rhett notices first.
I don’t answer.
“What is it?” Ezra asks.
“I don’t know.”
Another slow movement rolls beneath my palm, tightening my entire abdomen with it.
“No.”
Malakai steps closer. “What do you feel?”
“Nothing.”
“Sage.”
The warning in his voice tells me he knows I’m lying.
“I said nothing.”
Too fast.
Too sharp.
Ezra is in front of me before I can back away, his hands closing around my shoulders.
“What happened?”
“I…”
I can’t fucking say it.
Because the second I put words to it, it becomes real.
Then my stomach moves beneath my hand.
