A Very Irish Scandal

This time, when Addison stepped around Oliver, he made no attempt to prevent it. “Are you having my brother’s baby?”

The woman’s face revealed nothing. “So you are Addison. Do you know where I can find Kyle?”

If only. “When was the last time you saw him?”

The brunette’s eyes turned frosty. “Exactly six months ago.”

Although Oliver was careful not to touch her, Addy felt his steady presence all along her hip and side. It wasn’t altogether unpleasant.

“Where?” he asked.

“Back in the States. I heard he’s now in Ireland.”

Addy studied the pregnant woman. “And you know him… how?”

Sylvia thrust her hand in her purse and pulled out an engagement ring. The ginormous diamond flashed in the sun.

Addison blinked. Impossible. Kyle couldn’t be engaged again, and yet the ring said otherwise. That diamond was huge. “How long have you two been engaged?”

Sylvia dropped the ring back into her bag. “Doesn’t matter. It’s over.”

Oliver’s arm settled around Addison’s shoulders, an anchor against a tidal wave of new information. She should shake him off. Instead, she allowed it.

“How did you find her here?”

Oliver’s snarl sent Sylvia back a step. She glanced behind her—most likely checking her escape route. “It wasn’t easy.”

No, duh. How the hell did Sylvia follow her here? Had she been with her since the airport?

Before Sylvia made a dash for it, Addy gestured inside the house. “Do you want to come in?”

“No,” bit out Oliver. “She doesn’t.”

It wasn’t like they could let her leave before learning more. Addison pivoted to him. “Don’t be—”

But Sylvia interrupted her brewing tirade. “No, no, don’t fight. I have to go anyway.”

Pivoting on her heel, she started for her car.

Addison had to restrain herself from lunging forward. Tackling Sylvia to the ground wouldn’t help get to answers any faster. Instead, she called out from her spot next to Oliver. “Wait! Do you want to leave your number?”

“That’s okay,” Sylvia tossed over her shoulder. “It wouldn’t do any good.”

Addy couldn’t just let the woman disappear. “Where are you staying? Are you close by? Please—”

But Sylvia hurried to her shiny red car with surprising agility for someone who looked to be carrying a litter, taking any answers with her.

“If you find Kyle first,” she called back, pulling open her door, “tell him that his days are numbered. There’s a hundred grand bounty for whoever brings him in. Guess threatening someone with means has consequences. He pays me back what he owes, or I’ll find him and cash in.”

Chapter 10

Sylvia’s tires screeched as she sped out of the driveway.

Addison whirled on her surly host. “You scared her off.”

Oliver slammed the door shut.

The sudden darkness disoriented her. A cocoon of his own choosing, and she’d gotten herself willingly trapped in it. How could the man possibly see in this? Her senses grasped for anything solid.
