Rise of the Reborn Beta

Their wolves are already getting sick.

Another beat of silence.

We have to stop it.

My hand settles over my belly. I know. But I can’t tell Luna Selena how I know without telling her about us.

And that isn’t only our secret.

Exactly.

Our first life belongs to both of us. So does everything we could put at risk by admitting we remember it.

Rylan needs to know too, Darian says. If we tell them, we tell them together.

I look at Luna Selena.

I agree.

“Luna Selena?”

She looks up.

“We need to help Pine Ridge.”

Her expression turns serious. “I read their request earlier. Brennan and I talked about it during my lesson.”

I wait.

“He said there has to be a balance between what the Luna handles and what the Alpha handles. I have other responsibilities that need my attention, and this needs to go through the Alpha office because it involves warriors and outside security. That’s Alpha business.”

My fingers tighten around the tablet. “They can’t wait.”

Luna Selena studies me. “You know something.” I hold her gaze. “You must,” she says. “Otherwise you wouldn’t be this certain.”

“Ask Rylan and Darian to come to the office.” She watches me for another second before reaching for their mindlinks. When they arrive, I hand the report directly to Darian. He reads it while Rylan moves beside Luna Selena. Darian looks at me.

I agree. Tell them.

I lace my fingers through his. “We were reborn,” I say. Luna Selena’s eyes widen. Darian squeezes my fingers. “Both of us remember our first lives.” I tell them everything that I remember and Darian chimes in, saying what he remembers.

Rylan looks between us. “And Pine Ridge?”

“They won’t survive if we do nothing,” Darian says.

I nod toward the report still in his hand. “That’s how it starts. Candice poisons their water. They keep getting weaker until their wolves can barely heal, reach their wolves, or shift. Then the rogues attack.”

Rylan’s expression hardens. “You’re certain?”

“I heard Candice bragging about it after Pine Ridge fell.”

Luna Selena looks from me to Darian. “How long did you know her?”

“Eight months in this life. In our first life one year and eight months,” I say. “That’s how long we survived in her and Zeke’s camp.”

Luna Selena goes quiet. Then her eyes widen. “The investments.” Oh no. “That’s how you knew.”

“Some of it.”
