“I just worry about you.”

“I know.”

“And him, actually.”

“That one's new.” My brows fly up.

“Shut up. I like Simon.”

“You've spent years calling him a fucking idiot.”

“Both things can be true. And I still think you should go back to couples therapy before the baby comes.”

“We're going to. We already talked about it. I'm going to do some individual appointments too. I have enough feelings about all of this to single-handedly finance someone's vacation home.”

“That sounds healthy.” Jamie says sarcastically.

“I'm very self-aware.”

“You're certainly something.”

I throw a pen at her.

She catches it against her chest. “Violence against coworkers. I'm reporting you.”

I scoff. “Shut up, you love me.”

She playfully rolls her eyes and for a moment we both go back to eating our lunches.

“How was engagement sex?” Jamie asks around a mouthful of ham and cheese.

I cover my face. “Oh my God.”

“What? I’m curious.”

“Fuck you.” I groan.

“Apparently somebody did.”

“Jesus Christ.” I glance toward my classroom door even though it's closed. “We are at work.”

She lowers her voice. “How was it?”

I bite my lip.

I’m an adult. There is absolutely no reason for me to suddenly feel like I'm seventeen and telling my best friend what happened in the backseat of somebody's car.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what this feels like.

I lean across the desk. “It was fucking filthy.”

Her mouth drops open.

I immediately start laughing.

Jamie is staring at me in horror.

“Was it like...different?” Jamie asks. “Does some metal on your finger really make it that different?”
