Chill

“It’s teenage fun, Mom.” Cassian jutted his lip out. I scowled.

“Not when I lose pay coming to bail you out,” I retorted, and Cassian subsided. He understood money was tight. Gerard wasn’t paying child support, and we still weren’t divorced. For fourteen months he’d dragged this out. It was too long.

“Sorry,” Cassian said, and I knew he was. But he’d still pull something in the future.

Chill

I hit the punchbag and sent it flying.

Vortex grinned at me as he caught it and returned it. I punched it again and felt that through my arm. I’d been working out, putting on weight and muscle mass slowly. Getting back to my prior self. There was a grunt from Tracker next to me as Bow laid him out flat.

Bow began laughing as Tracker glowered from the floor.

“You’re old,” Bow taunted, dancing around him with his fists held up.

Demon glanced over and snorted in amusement, stuck a leg out, and tripped Bow.

“Asshole,” Bow ground out as he looked up. In response, Zorro chuckled as he watched.

Over the past year, Nanci had tracked down more legacies. Demon was Satan’s cousin, and Zorro was Yeti’s. Riot, Art’s brother, had joined us alongside Abyss, Casanova’s brother.

The club had grown from the three sole survivors of the war. We weren’t healed, but were a hell of a lot better. We weren’t ever going to be our previous selves, but we were adapting.

It had been over a year since we’d been forced to straighten up, and everything had settled. The town was finished, and every shop/business was open. We were booked in advance and were doing pretty damn well. Money was flowing in, as Inglorious had predicted. The pain remained present, but therapy and growth had helped dull it.

It would never really leave me. At least I could handle it now.

“Okay, assholes, get up. Church in half an hour,” Vortex ordered, sticking his head in.

“Any idea what Inglorious is up to?” I asked.

“Nope. Prez said he’s got a surprise but won’t tell me what. So, move,” Vortex replied.

We headed out, shoving each other and laughing as we did. As I walked through the rec room, I caught sight of Meadow. She still drove me nuts, but I had ironclad control over my cock. She was unattainable—off limits and way above my punching weight. I jogged upstairs and showered before heading down to church.

I entered and paused, cocking my head. Drew, the sheriff, was present, and I wondered what trouble had found us now. Beside him was another man, one I recognised.

“Thought you were dead,” I said, grabbing his elbow and shoulder-bumping him.

“Hoped?” he challenged, making me laugh.

“Widowmaker,” Vortex greeted, entering behind me and sounding shocked.

“You can have SAA,” Tracker grinned as he entered.

“Not my position. I’m taking my old one back,” Widowmaker replied.

“Lieutenant?” I asked, and Widowmaker nodded.

“Mouse was SAA; his rank is yours as his legacy,” Vortex stated.

“I got rank. Mouse would be fuckin’ tickled you’re SAA, considering how you avoided responsibility. He’d love that you had his role,” Widowmaker taunted, and Tracker glowered.

“Asshole.”

Inglorious walked in and claimed his chair. Widowmaker took his left-hand side, and Vortex sat on his right.

“Drew is joining us and forgoing the prospect period. You could argue that he’s been unofficial for a year now,” Inglorious said. “His road name is Law.”
