“Meadow, I’m set in my ways, certainly don’t deserve you and will fuck up. I need you to be brave and point out when I’m being an ass. Doesn’t mean I’ll recognise it straight away, but eventually I will. Never fear me. The last thing I’ll do is hurt you. Shout, scream, and rant; I’ll do it back. I may get in your face, but I would slit my throat before raising a hand to you.”
“I’m scared of confrontation.”
“Naturally so. But don’t be afraid of me. And if I ever fucked up and failed you—my brothers would beat my ass,” Chill promised.
“Don’t be sweet,” I said with tears in my eyes. “I’m not equipped to handle that!”
“Babe,” Chill’s eyes warmed, and he climbed over me and propped himself against the headboard and gently pulled me into his shoulder.
“Women like you deserve more than sweet. I ain’t the gallant hero, with pretty words and huge gestures. I’m just a biker. But I’ll ride ten hours through snow and rain to get to you. I’ll take a bullet for you, and I’ll be there to chase away the nightmares,” Chill swore.
I heard his resolution, and he knew it, and I gave a little hiccupping sob. What did you do with a man like that? Why was he attracted to me?
“I’ve three kids,” I muttered, wiping my eyes.
“No, we’ve got two sons and a daughter. Meadow, if you’re thinking this is a flash in the pan, forget it. This is us for life!” Chill stated clearly.
“You don’t even know what I’m like. I might have annoying habits.”
“Then I’ll learn to cope with them. Honey, I know enough. You’re kind, caring, strong, intelligent, and an amazing mom.”
“I’m too old to have more kids,” I blurted.
“More than three is selfish. Have you seen Poet? She’s stunning, just like her mom. I don’t think Cassian needs a father figure, but I can be his friend,” Chill said, drawing me in tighter.
“I need time. Is that okay?” I couldn’t believe he was just batting arguments back. Didn’t most men want blood children?
“Take whatever you need; I’m going nowhere.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” My eyes closed as Chill rested his chin on my head.
I woke up surprisingly warm and with three pairs of curious eyes staring at me. Cassian appeared amused, while Poet and Zion looked puzzled. I noticed several things. A heavy arm around my waist, someone spooning me, and a face nuzzled into my neck. Shit! I’d fallen asleep on Chill, and now the kids had caught us in bed together.
“Is Chill my new daddy?” Poet demanded.
“No!” I cried in a strangled tone.
“Yes!” Chill rumbled.
Poet looked even more confused. “Mommies and Daddies sleep together.”
“Yup,” Chill agreed, stretching.
“So, you’re my new Dad?” Poet pushed.
I started to say no again, but Chill beat me to it. “Yes.”
“Can we keep this Daddy, please, Mom? He’s nicer than the old one,” Poet asked. Chill began laughing as Zion’s eyes widened. Cassian snorted, and I shoved my head into a pillow.
“Go away,” I moaned.
“No, I want the new Daddy to come for breakfast,” Poet demanded.
“Yeah, Daddy.” Cassian smirked.
I muttered something rude under my breath, which made Chill laugh again as he climbed out of bed.
