“So did I.”
Something in his tone made me pause. “When Runa was pregnant,” he continued, “I wouldn't let her leave our rooms without me.”
Lucien laughed. Volken glared. “You were worse.”
“I know. That's why it's funny now.”
Volken ignored him. “I followed her everywhere. Checked everything she ate. Had the healers examine her constantly. I nearly killed a servant because she slipped on wet flooring.”
I frowned. “That sounds reasonable.” All four men groaned.
“What?” I demanded.
Lucien pointed his glass at me. “That's the fucking problem.”
Roman rubbed his forehead. Volken almost smiled. “Runa eventually stabbed me.”
I blinked. “With what?”
“A fork.” Draugr started laughing.
“Why the fuck does everyone find this funny?”
“Because,” Draugr said, “I remember you walking around for three days with four little holes in your hand because you refused to heal them.”
Volken shrugged. “She told me they were a reminder.”
I considered it. “Fair.”
Lucien dropped into a chair. “Sorcha threw a lamp at me.”
“What did you do?”
“Moved her wardrobe.”
I stared. “Why?”
“Sharp corner.”
I nodded. “Reasonable.”
“THANK YOU.”
Roman looked between us. “You're both fucking idiots.”
Lucien pointed at him. “Layla made you sleep in the corridor.” My attention moved immediately to Roman, that was interesting. Roman's face became dangerously blank.
Draugr grinned. “She did.”
“Why?” I asked.
Roman's jaw flexed. “I placed guards inside our bedroom.”
I stared at him, then slowly nodded. “That actually is excessive.” I said even though a few minutes earlier I had said them to Bryn. The room went silent. Lucien nearly dropped his drink, I saw Volken's mouth had opened. Draugr stared at me and Roman looked offended. “What?”
Lucien started laughing. “Oh, fuck me. That's your line?”
“I wouldn't put guards inside the bedroom.”
