He’s wearing a tweed three-piece suit and has a flower in his lapel. He rolls his eyes. “Not sure why you getting married means that I have to dress fancy, but that’s England, I suppose.”

“I think there’s more to the country than wedding etiquette, but you do you. Did they have to surgically remove your flat cap?”

He huffs. “My head is cold, but please don’t feel guilty.”

“I won’t.” I narrow my eyes. “Did you brush your beard? Did they find any missing wildlife in there?” I laugh when he glares at me. “What? I’ve never seen such sartorial splendour.”

“Maybe you should stick to shelving the thesaurus rather than reading it.” His keen old eyes swipe over me. “Well, you scrub up nicely.”

I spread my hands. “Isn’t it fancy? Levi insisted on buying the suits.”

“And thank god for that.”

“What does that mean?”

He adopts an innocent expression. “Nothing. What?”

Will comes up next to us, huffing crossly. “No really, please don’t stick your hand in your pocket, Blue. I will pay the taxi driver.”

“I’m the one getting married.”

He stares at me. “So?”

“So, it’s my day.”

“Well, it certainly isn’t Levi’s.”

I huff. “You lie.”

“Who’s lying?”

At the voice of my beloved, a smile spreads across my face. I spin to see him walking towards us, accompanied by Rhys.

“Will,” I offer, throwing my best friend under the bus. “He seems to think today is more of a tribulation for you.”

He hums, a smile tugging at his full lips. “I’ll get through it somehow.”

Tom pats his shoulder. “Brave lad.”

“Thank you, Tom.”

“Oh, sod off,” I say, and they all laugh. A horrible thought occurs to me. “Oh my god, this is bad luck.”

Levi blinks. “What is?”

I gesture between us. “Me seeing you before the wedding. It’s bad luck.”

“That was mainly in the era of arranged marriages when the father wanted to avoid the groom finding the bride unattractive,” Tom offers. “Judging by your hugely detailed little stories, I’d say Levi has seen all of you and won’t be doing a runner.”

“Not today anyway,” Levi says rather sassily.

I roll my eyes. “Levi has seen every inch of me and some of them are very important inches.” I nudge Tom. “Do you get it?”

“Like a sledgehammer to my brain. Thank you very much.”

Rhys says something to Tom, and Levi grabs my arm and pulls me to one side.

“You okay?” he asks softly. “No nerves?”
