It was still just him, Daddy, only I realized now that all along he'd been rougher around the edges than I'd ever realized.
With his mask in my hand, I said, "No more hiding. We're a family now, the three of us."
"Who's hiding?" Said Cherry.
She plucked her own mask off.
For the first time I saw her face fully. She had a delightful face. More mature than mine with lots of freckles, and oddly warm and comforting.
We cuddled and we hugged a little longer. Then the three of us got up and took a shower together.
When we were done and getting dressed. Cherry put a hand on my shoulder.
"So, boss," she said. "Are we coming here next year? It could be like a family vacation, you know?"
I looked at Daddy. He raised an eyebrow at me.
We both broke out in laughter. Going to either side of Cherry we both kissed her on the cheek tenderly.
