“Really? You want to do this now?”

“I’m just curious. That kind of thing doesn’t happen to me very often.”

“Look. I’m sorry. I’m just not that into you, okay? I only said yes because my dad forced me to. I’m sorry if I led you on. And for standing you up. That wasn’t cool.”

“You’re forgiven. You could make it up to me you know,” Patrick said with a quick grin.

“I don’t think so,” Ant said, shaking her head. “Why don’t you date Nikki? You know she really likes you.”

“I know about you and Romeo,” he said in way of a response.

“Excuse me?”

“I know about you and Romeo.”

“Oh really?”

“He’s not what you think.”

“And what do I think?”

“He’s no good for you.”

“Oh? And you are?”

“Hey. I’m a great guy who’s only been nice and respectful to you and your family. I’m the Deputy Assistant Mayor and currently the youngest appointed official in the state. And…” he said, pausing dramatically. “You might not know it but I’m quite a good dancer. ”

Even though she liked what he said, and the way he said it, just a little bit, she said, “I don’t dance.”

“That’s too bad.” He got up from his chair. Then he got serious for a second, like he was telling her something for her own good. “You may not realize this yet, but I’m the good guy here. This Romeo guy is a sneaky liar who just put your brother in the hospital.”

“You don’t know that.”

“Yeah I do.”

“And what about you? You slept with Nikki.”

“Oh. You know about that?”

“Yeah. I know about that.”

“I never really wanted to go out with Nikki, but your mom insisted.”

“Yeah, but you still slept with her.”

He threw his arms up in defeat. “Yeah. I did. She threw herself at me and I was upset because you blew me off. It was a moment of weakness. If I could take it back I would.”

Neither of them noticed Nikki walking back down the hall. But she noticed them. And she didn’t like what she saw one bit.

She had two coffees in her hands, neither of them with lids. She walked distractedly over towards Cap. Never once taking her eyes off them. Which is why she didn’t really see his big feet pushed way out in front of the chair he was sitting in. She stumbled and spilled coffee all over his foot.

“What the hell are you doing?!” he yelled.

“Sss… Sorry,” she stammered, startled by his outburst.

Ant and Patrick both turned.
