“Truth,” I said.

“You got a crush on someone right now?” she asked.

“Why?”

“I’m the one askin’ the questions here, mister. Now answer.”

“Yes, I do have a crush on someone.”

“Who is it?” she asked.

“That’s two questions,” I said with a grin. “Your turn.”

“Truth.”

“Do we really need to keep askin’ each other ‘truth or dare’ if neither of us is gonna pick dare?”

“Nope.”

“Then answer me this. You got a crush on anyone right now?”

“Hey. No throwbacks,” she said.

“You didn’t specify that, doll. Now answer the question.”

“I think so,” she said. “It’s more of a lingering idea that never really went away.”

“One of those crushes that just always is but you never thought you'd get a chance at it?” I asked.

“Yep.”

“It’s your turn to ask a question.”

I watched her eyes flutter up to mine as the music stopped. The DJ started packing up, but her body stayed pressed against mine. My hand splayed across her back as the other came up to cradle her head. I could see her eyes flickering between mine and my lips, and everything inside of me wanted to kiss her.

I was getting a second chance, and I wasn’t going to squander it.

“You got a crush on me?” Katie asked breathlessly.

I dipped my nose to hers, nuzzling it close as her breath pulsed against my lips.

“Always,” I said in a whisper.

CHAPTER 14

KATIE

My breath hitched in my throat as that word hit my ears. Always? Dylan had always had a crush on me? I felt his lips brush against mine and electricity shot down my back. His hands were pulling me into him, and I allowed myself to let go and enjoy the moment in front of me. This was it. This was what should’ve happened at my eighteenth birthday party. Just like Dylan should’ve been the man to take me that night, he was the man that would sweep me off my feet now. Our lips connected and I melted into him, feeling his strong arms encompass the whole of me as my knees gave way.

I could taste the beer on his breath, and I tried to convince myself it was just the alcohol. There was no way another one of the Lee brothers wanted to enjoy me this way. I’d always known about Wyatt. None of that shocked me. Especially with what happened between the two of us at prom. But Dylan? The smooth, collected, suit-wearing, sophisticated cook? The man who only did one-night stands and never committed himself to anything but his business?

Could I really allow myself to believe he wanted me that way?

He scooped me off my feet and started moving us from the dance floor. My tongue slid between his lips, and I moaned, tasting the beer and cheese on the tip of his tongue. He carried me into the corner and sat me down onto something, and it wasn’t until his lips began traveling down my neck that I recognized where I was.

The bar.
