His phone buzzed again.

Striker chuckled. “Annabella and her friends are there.”

Commerce glanced at him. “So you want to go too?”

“Why the hell not? Hang out, have a few beers, see how Annabella is doing.”

“Hit on her friends?”

Striker chuckled. “Some stand out more than others. Come on, it will be fun and relaxing.”

“Whatever.” Striker texted back and thirty minutes later they were walking into the Irish bar, greeted by Annabella and her friends and a bunch of other locals.

“Are you having fun yet?” Annabella asked Commerce as he joined her by the bar.

He looked around the place. “It’s cool here, very down low and friendly.”

“A nice place to forget about work, about anything but chilling with friends. I’m glad Louisa talked me into getting out.” Annabella said to him.

“You haven’t been out much this week?”

“Oh, I have been out. To the gym, the dojo first thing this morning.”

“How was your head? You don’t want to push things too soon.” Commerce said with concern.

“It bothered me a little but I dealt with it.” She rubbed the rim of her beer mug. “It felt good actually, to hit something.” She chuckled.

“Got a lot of hostility in you still huh?” he asked and smirked. As he gave her shoulder a nudge.

She nodded toward the corner of the room by the door where Denver stood.

“What is with that? I mean seriously, you’re great friends with Ivan, why is Denver constantly around me? I’m nobody.”

“I would have to disagree with that. He was pretty shaken up about that scene. We all were upset about it.”

She narrowed her eyes and held his gaze. She really was a very beautiful woman, and sweet too. He knew his best friend was interested in her, and Ivan never showed interest in any woman. He was pro at blowing them off and making them leave him alone.

“It’s precaution. That’s all.”

“That’s what I keep telling myself. I suppose once I head back to work it will change.”

He took a slug from his bottle of beer. “When is that?”

“Oh, like I would tell you so Ivan can call me and order me to remain resting? I don’t think so. I’ve got plans, and some things to work out with work.”

“So enough about me, what’s this whole security company that’s opening up in town? You all part of that too?” She asked.

“How did you hear about…oh wait, the guys mentioned it?”

“Mentioned you were on a job and well, we know you guys were active duty soldiers, then suddenly you aren’t and you’re hanging round the clubs and Gables, then in town a lot where that new construction is, so we kind of put it all together.”

“Pretty smart.”

“Observant. So how do you like it?”

“It’s safer.”

She held his gaze. Her stunning green eyes showed she really cared. Commerce realized that Ivan was in trouble here. This woman was special indeed, and might just have the ability to break through those walls he put up and actually find a woman he could trust or maybe love.
