And then Pike pulled up in front of a cute house a couple of blocks away from my parents’ place.

“Why are we stopping here?” I asked, a suspicion forming in my mind. My heart pounded, but I didn’t want to blurt out my hope in case I was wrong.

Pike just winked at me, then got out of the car and went around to help me up. I normally didn’t care either way if I got out of the car myself or if he helped me, but now that I was so heavily pregnant, I needed a helping hand to stand up (and sometimes even to sit down).

He led me up the steps and pulled a key out of his pocket. “So, Morgan and I spent forever finding the perfect spot. You talked about how you want our kids to be able to live close to their grandparents, and about some other things you wanted in a house, so we finally found this one. I didn’t want you to have to stress about it while you were also planning the wedding, and I wanted us to be all moved in before our child is born.”

Pike opened the door, and then to my shock he bent down and scooped me up. I shrieked in surprise, my stomach whooshing, wrapping my arms around his neck for dear life. Pike was so damn strong, sometimes I forgot just how strong. All those lifting of cars and stuff in the garage did him plenty of favors—he could still lift his pregnant wife, apparently.

His wife. I was his wife. Pike was my husband.

Holy shit, that was amazing to think about.

Pike stepped across the threshold, holding me, and walked me a few feet before setting me down. All around us the house was pretty bare. The furniture in the apartment he’d been staying in, Pike hadn’t been planning on keeping. He was going to turn the apartment into a home for someone else who needed it, someone else who might need a fresh start just like he had as a teenager and when he’d first come back home. But I didn’t care if it was empty. We’d pick out the furniture together, and paint, and make it our home.

“I did go ahead and set up one room,” he told me with a wink, closing the door behind him and then leading me upstairs.

I followed eagerly, even when Pike put his hand over my eyes so that I couldn’t see and led me onward. I had no idea what was in store, but I was excited for it.

“Okay. Open.” He pulled his hand away.

We were standing in a beautiful master bedroom, with a king sized bed and an adorable crib in the corner—a crib that I recognized.

“Your dad got it down from the attic storage,” Pike told me, grinning.

I walked over and ran my hands over the crib, smiling softly. This had been my crib back in the day, when I was a baby.

“Do you like it?” Pike asked, sounding a bit unsure. As if he could truly be in any doubt that I was so happy right now.

I turned, wrapping my arms around him. “This is perfect. You’re perfect. Thank you for—for loving me and making my dreams come true.”

“Hey.” Pike faked a pout. “You stole my line.”

“Get ready for a whole lifetime of that.”

“I can’t wait.” Pike pulled me closer and kissed me, and I knew that I agreed with him.

I couldn’t wait for the rest of our lives together.
