“That’s the plan, right there.”

“Excellent. So, when they seem to be insulting me, I’ll just assume they’re hugging me with their mean words.”

“You’re a brilliant woman.”

Offering me a lazy smile, Alexis murmurs, “I’m not used to such a compliment avalanche. You might want to ease up, buddy.”

“Or you could adjust to how someone finally sees your worth.”

“I’m already dealing with a lot of life changes. I feel like you could be the one to change here.”

“I refuse to stop mentioning how you’re better than other people.”

Alexis suddenly disconnects. There’s no other way to explain it. She’s right here with me. And then, she’s still physically next to me, but her head and heart are gone. She feels empty now.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” she replies casually. “What’s the plan besides fucking tonight? Do we just talk about our feelings?”

“Are you bored?”

Wearing a blandly happy smile, Alexis stares at me. She’s putting on a show. I cup her face as if to awaken the other parts of her.

“What is this thing you’re doing?” I ask, studying her face.

“It’s called looking at the guy who made my pussy purr.”

“No, you’re upset.”

“I’ve heard your family feeds off drama. Is that what you’re doing now? Trying to stir up drama to keep yourself entertained now that you’ve won your prize?”

“I’m not an asshole.”

Alexis stares at me for a long time before saying, “You’ve been nice to me.”

“Why are you talking like that?”

“I’m tired.”

“No, you’re upset.”

“I’m overwhelmed from my first time.”

Frowning, I know she’s lying. Alexis isn’t easy to read. Right now, she wears the same expression as earlier. However, I feel her closed off to me.

I roll out of bed and take a piss. While in the bathroom, I think about how I’ve never been in this situation before. I normally screw a chick, make small talk, and tell her to have a nice night before taking off.

Hiding out in the bathroom, I think of Alexis running earlier. She is so casually unbothered by life’s bullshit. Except it’s just a coping mechanism, like how Tuesday gets weirder when she feels vulnerable.

Okay, problem-solving time! What do I know about my dream girl? Alexis wants nice things, likes being spoiled, and fears me tossing her aside.

So, shouldn’t she be jumping for fricking joy in reaction to my devotion and encouragement?

Yes, she should! But I’ve never been any good at looking at both sides of a situation.

Confused now, I text my pa to ask if I’m an asshole.

“Yes.”
