“Don’t worry about us. If he annoys me, I’ll punch him.” Ramya was visibly angry.

Nami looked at Vasavi. “I know you didn’t want to out him when he hurt you, but if he keeps annoying you, you should report him.”

The other girl nodded thoughtfully. “I will if he messes with you two.”

“We’ll be fine, I will—” Her voice was lost when someone approached their table with a group right behind.

Nami looked up to find Varun standing over them, looking angrily at Ramya. “Hey, you, I know it’s you. Why did you mess up my car?”

Nami was taken aback that the guy was targeting Ramya. “Back off,” she said, standing up between the guy and her cousin.

Varun looked at Nami. “You stay out of this. I’m not talking to you.”

“Don’t talk to my cousin like that,” Nami growled.

The guy ignored her warning and was still targeting Ramya. He was issuing threats, and she could see Ramya was shaking with anger but was unable to respond.

“Varun, I will report you,” Nami said rather loudly, and that caught his attention, and he turned away from Ramya.

“Really, newbie. You will report me? For what?” He was beyond angry than when he was getting push back from them.

Nami narrowed her eyes. “I know what happened with Vasavi. I’m holding off only because she asked me not to report you.”

“You!” He turned to look at Vasavi and took a few steps toward her threateningly, and Nami stepped in front of him again to stop him.

Even as she took the step, she saw Varun’s strong arm move toward her to push her out of his way. She closed her eyes and braced for impact from the blow, but it never came.

“Back off,” a new male voice joined the conversation, and she opened her eyes to find Rana standing in front of her, and Varun had fallen to the floor, a shocked expression on his face.

“Rana, stay out of this. This is between me and my girl.” Varun stood up. “Don’t interfere. You have no business here.”

Nami was about to say something, but Rana gently raised his hand and hushed her. “You don’t get to mess with my girl.” Rana took a step toward her and wrapped an arm around her.

The other guy looked shocked, and Nami knew she had a matching expression on her face too. “I don’t know what you and your girlfriend have—”

“Ex-girlfriend,” Vasavi called out, and that did it for Varun.

“Now leave.” Rana grit his teeth, and Nami was taken aback when she saw the raw anger in his eyes.

A strange silence fell over the group before Varun turned away to leave, his friends following him out of the cafeteria.

Nami was still in a daze. What the heck just happened? Did he just announce in front of everyone that they were an item? What the heck did he do? Now what?

She finally recovered from the shock and looked up to find Ramya and Vasavi making googly eyes at her as Rana went to talk to the security at the cafeteria to brief them on the incident.

“I knew you two were up to something.” Ramya laughed, suddenly recovered from the anger.

“And so much for, I don’t want to be distracted,” Vasavi joined in to taunt her.

Nami debated if she should tell the girls the truth, but then that meant she had to spill the beans on everything, including the family rivalry. She was already the official fangirl, now the girlfriend—a fake one. That’s got to be a promotion to new dizzying heights of annoyance and torture.

She was about to counter her cousin and roommate to deflect the topic when Rana called out to her. The way he said her name without the sarcasm and taunt, made her stomach knot up.

She excused herself and walked over to where Rana was when he gestured her to join him as he spoke to one of the security staff. “This is Namrata Varma, and she can give you a statement for what happened if required.”

“Thank you. Will let you know.” The man left, leaving her alone with Rana.

“What do you think you’re doing?” She was furious but could not raise her voice.
