“So maybe they just like me. Maybe I didn’t actuallydoanything other than being there. It sure didn’t feel like I summoned them, or whatever you call it.”

“The first time you saw them, you said they drew you in, correct?” Balfor asked.

“I followed one, which led me to the clearing with hundreds more,” Nayome agreed.

“I believe they brought you there, somehow. Being in that sacred place may have unlocked whatever dormant ability you have. Then later, when I saw you…” Balfor prompted.

“I was scared that time,” Nayome admitted, feeling a rush of fear as she remembered the wolves.

“Tell me.”

Nayome drew her chunky knit sweater closer around her, as she recounted the tale of the wolves, closing in on her, hind legs tensed and ready to pounce. “I thought I was going to die. The firefly’s didn’t appear until what felt like that final moment.”

Balfor had a thoughtful look on his face as Nayome recounted her brush with death.

“They protected you.” He murmured.

“It may have just been a coincidence.”

Balfor reached out and placed his hand over hers. Their fingers intertwined so naturally, as if the intimacy was more familiar than it was. Nayome wondered again what she was thinking, as she took in the man sitting so close she was warmed by his body heat.

“Nayome, there is no doubt that you have a connection to this place. The energy, it works through each of us differently. Yours…well, it may be tied to your emotions.”

“My emotions” Nayome murmured, as Balfor’s hand began a gentle stroke over her wrist, which looked so delicate next to his larger one.

“Nayome…” She shivered at the sound of her name.

“Yes?” Her voice sounded breathy all of a sudden, and she felt her cheeks heat up as she heard herself.

Balfor tugged her gently forward, and she went willingly. Everything felt fluid, like they were caught in a current that neither of them were interested in fighting against. Nayome knew this was crazy, but the pull she felt for Balfor felt so natural. And here, in Scotland, so far away from her regular life, she felt emboldened to explore the feeling. A thrill of anticipation curled her toes.

“Nayome.” Balfor said, her name was quiet this time, drawn-out into a moan, as the air between them turned electric.

“Yes” She breathed again, barely a whisper, inches away from his lips. His other hand threaded through her hair, cupping the nape of her neck.

“Jesus, Nayome.” Balfor murmured, a second before their lips met.

Nayome sighed softly as Balfor pulled her in, the length of their body’s pressing tightly against each other. She settled in his lap, arms wrapping around his neck as the kiss deepened.

Nayome’s lips parted for his tongue, every stroke sending shock waves through her system. As her tongue tangled blissfully with his, she heard Balfor let out a muffled groan, as her hips began moving to match the rhythm of their mouths.

“Aaah yes” Balfor groaned, encouragingly. The sound of his pleasure spurred her on, heating things up even further.

Nayome felt a delicious pressure building inside her as Balfor’s hands smoothed their way down her back to grip her butt, and pull her hips in even closer, increasing the friction between them.

She could feel the hard length of his erection pressing against her core, and she ground forward, wanton and free in a way she hadn’t ever experienced before. The sound that came out of her mouth as her body turned liquid with heat, could only be described as guttural, and brought back some semblance of reality. What am I doing?

Slowing her hips, and reluctantly breaking the kiss, Nayome leaned back in Balfor’s arms, breathing heavily, heart racing.

“Balfor—” She started.

“Call me Bal, Balfor…it’s too formal. My friends and family call me Bal. Well, all except Gabe.”

“Bal” She corrected, smiling and liking the sound of it. “I…”

His eyes locked on her lips as she spoke, distracting her.

“Stop that.”
