“Deadly.” Liza smirked. “Especially if you use them in the bedroom, if you know what I mean. He’ll learn his lesson real quick then.”

“Ew,” Sloan said. “I don’t need to hear about your sex-capades. But for reals, Daze. If he’s an asshole about anything, you let us know.”

“Thanks,” Daisy replied, amusement warming her soul. “But I hope I have it sorted. He’s a good guy.”

“Bit younger than you, am-I-right?” Sloan teased, waggling his eyebrows. “You clearly still have it.”

Daisy deadpanned. “Are you calling me old?”

Both her sisters blanked. Sloan’s mouth opened and shut like a fish.

“Um…” Liza’s eyes widened.

Then Daisy laughed and snorted. “Got you.”

Everyone sighed at once, then her sisters joined Daisy in chuckling before finally standing.

“Right, well, while we thoroughly enjoy having our big sister dish out snappy comebacks, you need to rest.” Liza dragged Sloan up by the arm.

“But I wanna set up the Xbox and game.” Sloan whined, but then caught the glare on Liza’s face. “Right. We gotta go.”

They both gave Daisy a quick squeeze on the arm, then left. The next time Daisy drifted to sleep, it was with a smile on her face.

Daisy couldn’t sleep.

After she’d eaten the soup, and Liza and Sloan visited, her energy came back in surges. Tony had also popped in at one point with Bailey and offered to make more food, to which she politely accepted, ate, and then went back to sleep. But now… now she felt like she’d been sleeping for weeks.

It had only been a day, surely.

Daisy didn’t want to piss off anyone so stayed in bed. She practiced using her gift, finding it easier to call to the surface. First, she’d started by fluttering the leaves on the plants. Then she moved entire objects. She finally got to the point where she could lift multiple plants in the air and not feel drained.

No blood leaked from her nose. Not even a sniffle.

In fact, she felt energized. So much so that when she heard Parker’s and Alice’s voice in the main living room, she ripped the IV drip from her arm and tossed off the coverlet.

She was done lying around.

What the hell am I wearing?

Glancing down, she found she was in some kind of boy-short underwear and a singlet. How had she not noticed wearing that when going to the bathroom? She didn’t even want to know who put that on her, or where the items had come from. Daisy pulled the thin coverlet off the bed and wrapped it around her, then went out to greet her brother.

He was in the kitchen, guzzling water. Still in his Deadly suit. Alice was next to him, her head down. When they looked at Daisy, she gasped. Both had injuries and blood over their features.

“What happened?”

They became confused.

Parker asked, “What do you mean?”

“I mean, you’re injured.”

“Not as bad as some of the others.”

“What?” she gaped. “What the hell is happening?”

“I thought someone told you?”
