“Nanny?” He laughed. “Is that the baby Knox I keep hearing about?”

“Yes,” I answered him, my face heating up.

“And you are her nanny?”

I nodded and the laughter that came straight from his lungs filled the room. The sound lured Hunter out of his office.

“Why are you still in my building, Parker?”

“I was on my way out, but then I bumped into your…nanny.”

Hunter’s head turned and he spotted me standing there with Sofi in my arms, awkwardly shifting from one leg to the other.

“Amelia.” He nodded politely and I did the same.

With enormous satisfaction and a mocking grin, Henry winked at Hunter.

“Do you want me to stay, mate? I always enjoy an afternoon show…”

“Get the hell out, Parker, before I kick your ass.”

“Fine.” He waved goodbye and let Emily walk him to the elevator, but I could hear him ask her, “Do you know what they do on weekends?” which made me turn red like a lobster.

Emily hadn’t said anything when she went back into her office, but it didn’t take a genius to read the suggestion in Henry’s voice. I walked to Hunter and shook my head before speaking.

“Coming here was a terrible idea. I’m sorry.”

“It’s definitely a surprise. You’re going to have to learn to ignore Henry. He has a lame sense of humor.”

“Seeing him in the daylight was mortifying.”

“I usually find shyness to be annoying, but it’s charming on you. You’re very different with your clothes on.”

More like I was different whenhisclothes were on. I could think straight when he was covered up and tucked away.

Sofi stole the show, saying hello to her uncle and waving, and I saw his steel-blue eyes flicker with joy, no matter how hard he tried to hide it.

“We’re interrupting your workday, aren’t we, Mr. Knox?”

“Yes, but I’m sure Emily can make some room in my schedule. Did you two get bored around the house?”

“Poppy came by to have lunch and she mentioned you were back in town. I just wanted to see you.”

“Poppy’s your friend, right? The one that works in one of my bars?”

“Yeah.”

A deep line appeared between his brows.

“She was in my house?” Oh, I knew that tone. I was in trouble with the boss.

“I, well…I should have asked, but I didn’t want to call and bother you…”

“It’s alright. You know I value my privacy. I guess it’s time for me to learn how to share my space now that I have you and Sofi in my life, huh?”

Were we there to stay, though? All I could hope for was that my love for this complicated, stubborn, closed-off man to be strong enough to convince him this was good.Thiswas worth it.

“Poppy would never say anything to anyone, and I didn’t discuss anything about us, Hunter.”
