Chapter 33

Sarah

Palo Alto, California

“AH, HAH! I CAUGHT YOU!” Tee screamed, startling me, and making me choke on my java when I jumped three feet high.

My friend was standing on the threshold of my hide out wearing a scary nurse outfit while I tried to hide my loot.

Tee had set up shop in my home after my ugly fight with Sass to take care of me.

At first, I’d been unbelievably grateful she was with me. It was good to have a friend around, and Tracey Davis was nothing if not entertaining.

But that was a week ago. Tee had morphed into nurse Annie since then, and I was pretty confident I would be drowning her in my bathtub if she stayed one more day.

I haven’t had one second to myself. Everywhere I went, she was there with me. I couldn’t even have caffeine in my own home, and had to hide like a child to drink it.

“Give it to me, you bitch.” When I didn’t obey, she stole the coffee from me and replaced it with the most disgusting green juice ever created by man.

“Drink.”

“No, if you don’t take that thing away from me, I’m going to shove it up your ass,” I warned her.

“No, you won’t.”

No, I won’t. I may kid, but Tee’s the best. I would drink that disgusting juice any day of the week to make her happy, just don’t tell her this.

Tee guided me to my couch like an invalid, and I sulked like a six-year-old because she was treating me like one.

The silent treatment slid off her back like water on a duck. She even turned on the radio to make up for the sudden lack of noise in the room.

Bitch.

As Becks’Loserbegan playing on the speakers, my other nannies, AKA my incredibly overprotective husband and the most annoying bodyguards on earth, came into the room.

“It’s your song, Lieutenant,” Oli said as he turned on the volume.

Eric chuckled when Oli grabbed Tee for a dance in my living room.

Derek soon joined the knuckleheads and mocked fought the Australian for a chance to dance with Tee. It is only when Angel took one for the team and joined their duel that I started laughing.

A sense of peace invaded me as I watched them.

This here was my family; these men were my people. I had finally found my home.

A small feminine voice interrupted the joyous reunion, making everyone halt.

“Excuse me?”

A young woman was standing by the door, accompanied by a guard.

She was barely in her twenties. Pretty. Even though I’ve never formally met her before, I would have recognized her anywhere.

“I’m sorry for barging in, but I’m looking for Sarah Murdoch.” The girl’s wide eyes focused on me as she talked. She looked like she was ready to bolt.

I pulled away from my husband and took a tentative step toward her.

“You don’t know me, but my name is Audrey,” she hesitated when I stopped in front of her. I smiled at her tremulously before embracing her in a hug.

“Welcome to my home, Audrey. I’m Sarah. You look just like our mom.”
