I thought over our conversation this morning. “You never said that.”
“I did, and you would have noticed if your face wasn’t buried in your phone at seven-thirty in the morning.”
“I was answering work emails,” I said defensively.
“I know what you were doing. I have eyes.”
“If you knew what I was doing then why are you upset?”
She sighed heavily into the phone. “Can we table this discussion for another time?”
“Like when?”
“I don’t know. Why don’t you check in with your executive assistant and see when she can squeeze me into your calendar.”
The line went dead. I dialed her again, but she sent me to voicemail. What the fuck was that about? Storming back to the elevator, I went back downstairs, texting my driver to come back. After that, I called Alisha.
“Boss, you know we left a half hour ago.”
“I need Rose’s address.”
“Hey, Alisha. I’m sorry to bother you at night,” she said mockingly. “I need a favor. Can you send me Rose’s address?”
“Yeah, I get the point. I’m being a dick.”
“Okay.”
“So, can I have it?”
“Hmmm. I don’t think so.”
And then she hung up on me. What was with all the women today? Had they put something in the water? I called her back.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Alisha. This is your boss speaking.”
“Mr. Langston?”
“Yes,” I bit out.
“What can I do for you?”
“Would you be so kind as to get me Rose’s address?”
“Why, I would love to do that for you. I’ll send a text to your driver.”
“Thank you.”
“Oh, you’re very welcome, sir. Anything to help.”
“I’ll bet,” I said just as I hung up.
I stood in the lobby waiting for my car, irritated that it was taking so long. When he finally showed up, I stormed out to the car, pissed as hell that it took him so long. “Did Alisha send you the address?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Then let’s go,” I snapped. Running my hand through my hair, I shifted in my seat, trying to get comfortable. I should be in bed right now with Rose, but she decided to pull this shit. I shouldn’t even be going over there. Whatever was going on with her, she needed to deal with it. I was so lost in thoughts of her that I didn’t even notice we had pulled over.
