“But why are you going to spend so much money trying to find someone who might not want to be found?”

“BecauseIneed closure, Bridget,” I say in frustration and get out of my chair so swiftly that the movement causes it to slide back into the wall. I start pacing, the restless energy of me needing answers making me feel like a caged tiger. “I can’t stop thinking of her. I felt things with her that no woman has ever come close to making me feel since then and I could’ve sworn I made her feel that way too.” I stop pacing and rake my hands through my hair. I look up at the ceiling and sigh, letting all of my emotions out in one whoosh of a breath.

“I’ve just got to know, Bridget. I must find her and see for myself. If the chemistry isn’t still there for her…if she’s moved on, I’ll let her go. Then maybe I can finally stop having regrets about letting her walk out of my life four years ago.”

I look back down at Bridget to see her blinking rapidly to try to keep her tears at bay. “Sean was right. I’ve never seen you this way before.” She stops and gulps before continuing, “She must be special for you to go through all this trouble to find her.”

“She is, Bridget. She’s this petite little lass, but she’s so strong. And I don’t just mean physically. She’s mentally strong and was building her business while going through a divorce. She’s brilliant and quick-witted, kind, and respectful of others.” I smile as the cascade of memories of my time with Jenna starts spilling through me. “She always tried to pay for everything and would get angry when I wouldn’t let her at least split the bills.” I chuckle at the image of Jenna’s beautiful, disgruntled face when I had paid for our last dinner together without her knowing. “I felt like myself with her, Bridget. She wasn’t impressed with me being an actor. If anything, that was the turn off. She liked me for me. Or so I presumed.”

“I’m sure she did, Cal,” she says with a small smile playing on her lips. “She sounds lovely. What does she look like?”

“To me, she’s gorgeous. She has hair the color of milk chocolate that always smelled like peaches. Her eyes are the color of amber that tends to hypnotize you sometimes.” I leave out the fact of how they would darken in desire and how I crave to see them turn that color again one day very soon.

“Damn it, Cal,” Bridget groans and grabs a tissue from the Kleenex box on my desk to dab her eyes with. “You’re right. You’ve got to find her, and I pray to God, Jesus, Zeus, Allah, Buddha—whomever we need to pray to—that she’s yours for the keeping.” Bridget stands up and gives me a tight hug.

“Thanks, Sister.” I squeeze her tightly before letting her go. I know she’s going to tell the other members of the family everything, but I realize that I don’t care anymore. Maybe giving her version and seeing how serious I am will help them welcome Jenna with open arms when they finally do get to meet her.

Because they will meet her when I make her mine.

“What can I do to help?” she asks before taking her seat again.

“When I hear back from the private investigator about her physical location, I want you to book my hotel as close to her as possible. I don’t care if it is far from the movie set.”

Bridget slowly smiles, the evil glint of my childhood nightmares twinkling in her eyes. “Oh, I can definitely do that.”
