GENEVIEVE

Iswear I’ve been wet ever since yesterday’s lessons on kicking ass. I’ve been hoping one of them would take the hint and fuck me, but no such luck. They are so focused on keeping me safe when I go back, running through plans upon plans, they don’t even notice me trying to seduce them.

What does a girl have to do to get some dick around here?

When I come down after a bath and find them all sitting in the living room, my heart skips a beat. Not because of how hot they are, which, okay they are, but because of the sadness in their eyes. Then Archer talks, confirming my fears.

“We need to move.”

I want to run, to hide, to fight, but it’s a stupid response, because I agreed to this. They are right—I need to go back. I can’t keep hiding, but the idea of being away from them has my chest physically aching until my breathing picks up. I don’t know if I can do it. I lived without them for years, but in such a short span of time, they have become my everything, and I know I won’t be able to sleep without them next to me, without the creak of this old farmhouse. I won’t be able to eat breakfast without their banter, without their smiles and secret touches. I won’t be able to go out without reaching for them.

I’ll be alone again, and for a moment, I’m back to being that abandoned street kid, wanting to cry, but then I meet their eyes. They are struggling just as much as I am, and seeing that settles the agony running through me. I have to do this to keep them safe and protect them the way they protect me. Short-term pain and distance will just make our time apart more bittersweet.

It doesn’t stop me from suggesting my next thought, however, to try and keep them with me.

“How about one more hit?” I suggest. They share a look but don’t seem opposed to it, so I surge ahead. “What about Chaz?”

“Too risky,” Gage responds immediately.

“It’s not about risk, it’s about revenge,” I retort, stopping before them with my head tilted back defiantly. “I need to do this. We need to do this. What do you say to one last hit?” I can’t keep the hope from my voice as I stand before them.

They are all watching me and listening.

Archer studies me for a moment, considering it, and I hold my breath. I know if he declines and says it’s too much of a risk, we won’t do it, but I know I need to, and I want them with me. He hurt me, lied to me, used me, and betrayed me. I want revenge, and I need their help to do it. I let it show in my eyes, and Archer finally nods.

I can’t help but clap as I grin widely at them all. “Then it’s time to go to work.”
